   Hannah Walters - Wakelin 2026

Hannah Walters, recipient of the Wakelin Award 2026. Hannah is a Welsh ceramic artist based at Fireworks Studios in Cardiff. Inspired by time spent working in her family’s antique centre in Pembrokeshire, her practice reworks traditional objects, collections, and ideas of value through ceramics. Working primarily with porcelain, she creates sculptural and non-functional objects. Hannah describes many of her pieces as “contemporary antiques”, objects that feel historic and newly formed. Her work has been exhibited across the UK, including at Collect, Artefact, and the Sculpture Trail at Craft Festival Wales. The Award is administered by the Friends of the Glynn Vivian and is generously supported by donations in memory of Richard and Rosemary Wakelin and their son Martin, who were themselves artists and active supporters of the arts in Swansea. Bydd Hannah Walters, a dderbyniodd Gwobr Wakelin 2026. Mae Hannah yn artist cerameg o Gymru sy’n gweithio yn Fireworks Studios yng Nghaerdydd. Cafodd ei hysbrydoli gan yr amser a dreuliodd yn gweithio yng nghanolfan hen bethau ei theulu yn Sir Benfro, mae ei harfer yn addasu gwrthrychau traddodiadol, casgliadau a syniadau o werth trwy gerameg. Gan weithio gyda phorslen yn bennaf, mae hi’n creu gwrthrychau cerfluniol ac anweithredol. Mae Hannah yn disgrifio sawl un o’u darnau fel “hen bethau cyfoes”, gwrthrychau sy’n teimlo’n hanesyddol ac yn newydd. Arddangoswyd ei gwaith ar draws y DU, gan gynnwys yn Collect, Artefact, a’r Llwybr Cerfluniau yng Ngŵyl Grefft Cymru. Gweinyddir y wobr gan Gyfeillion y Glynn Vivian ac fe’i cefnogir yn hael gan roddion ariannol er cof am Richard a Rosemary Wakelin, a’u mab Martin, yr oeddent hwythau hefyd yn artistiaid ac yn cefnogi’r celfyddydau’n frwd yn Abertawe.

Artist Frances Anderson on Art in the Sky

Frances Anderson is a Northumberland based artist working across print, photography, film and sculpture. Her practice is rooted in direct engagement with the natural environment, with a focus on water, movement, memory and place. As a long-distance open water swimmer, including crossings of the English Channel and the Strait of Gibraltar, she brings a heightened sensitivity to the rhythms and changing moods of water. Kites play a central role in Anderson’s work, activated through wind and air and creating a dialogue between artwork and environment. Through layered imagery and experimental processes, Anderson traces subtle details, waterlines, shifting surfaces and fleeting traces of breath, exploring what water leaves behind, both physically and emotionally. Frances Anderson lives and works in Northumberland, UK. Mae Frances Anderson yn artist o Northumberland sy’n defnyddio printiau, ffotograffiaeth, ffilmiau a cherfluniau. Mae ei gwaith wedi’i wreiddio’n uniongyrchol yn yr amgylchedd naturiol, gan ganolbwyntio ar ddŵr, symud, cof a lle. Fel nofiwr dŵr agored pellter hir, gan gynnwys croesi’r Sianel a Chulfor Gibraltar, mae’n cyflwyno sensitifrwydd uwch i rythmau a hwyliau newidiol dŵr. Mae barcutiaid wrth wraidd ei gwaith, gan gael eu gweithredu gan y gwynt a’r awyr a chreu sgwrs rhwng gwaith celf a’r amgylchedd. Drwy ddelweddaeth haenog a phrosesau arbrofol, mae Anderson yn olrhain manylion cynnil – llinellau dŵr, arwynebau newidiol ac olion byrhoedlog anadlu – gan archwilio olion ffisegol ac emosiynol dŵr. Mae Frances Anderson yn byw ac yn gweithio yn Northumberland, y DU.
