I'm sure listeners will recognize the nod. You guys have been doing this for a long time. And yes, you have right and that's one of the things you talk about a lot on your podcast is how long you guys have been friends. And I love that about you all. I love your rapport and I want to start there. I know you have shared the story before, but let's just start with how you all built your relationship prior to the podcast.</p> <p>Yeah, I mean, honestly, it's just, you know, kind of regular degular friends, you know, we, we met, we met, at Howard University, what feels like forever ago, but it's actually probably about 15 years ago at this point, and, and yeah, we just met at a party and kind of and kind of, you know, fell in as friends do--first within a circle of friends. </p> <p>And then you have that big transition, where, you know, you graduate from college, and everybody's kind of like, you know, moving to different places. And I think that's actually probably when Britney and I got closer like we were close in college, but definitely after graduation, like when we really started our relationship because we were just trying to figure it out. You know, it's like, do I take this job? This doesn't feel right and like life is a little crazy. No, but I think we were lucky to be able to have each other and our circle of friends was also really tight. So we just just stayed in touch and then as life continued to happen, I think it brought us kind of close together Brittany at one point move to New York. a while, to stay stay with me for a little bit </p> <p>and yeah, six months on the futon. Yeah, yeah. [laughs]</p> <p>Yeah.</p> <p>But yeah, I mean, it each point I think we kind of turn to each other. And so you know, I will say like, it was a different...... it was definitely a different journey when we started when we kind of decided how to decided to work together creatively. But you know, we had like, known each other for so long at that point. It was strictly not like that knew of a process because we knew the person it was just we didn't know the work that we had to do.</p> <p>Yeah, we didn't know the work that we had to do and we were figuring the work out along the way. It was like podcasting is very much a thing. I don't know if you've experienced this RaVal, but like, podcasting is a thing. I think for the most part where you are learning as you're going, you're like, I'm gonna do it, and you're like, I'm just gonna talk, we're gonna record it, we'll put it out, I'm just gonna do it. Everyone's gonna love it and it will be amazing. And that is not how it is. is not how it is. But I do think that the process of like learning to do something creative together, learning to be accountable to another person, in a creative endeavor, and also learning the work side of each other, I think was also definitely it has been eye opening experience. We've definitely grown closer and continue to grow as friends in those ways as well.</p> <p>I love that I love that you're friends and that you can work together. And I think that's something that's so important. Essentially, you guys are producing partners at this point, right? Because you've transitioned from the podcast producing that to now producing a television show. So I would love to get your thoughts on how you ... How do you choose the right producing partner? So many times we see people go into business, we've seen major directors and producers, of these companies have great success then split up and kind of it become a nasty sort of thing. How do you make sure that you're selecting a friend that you can actually work with? Or how do you isolate those characteristics?</p> <p>.... </p>

Oh my gosh, I'm so excited to speaking to you all. And congratulations on your new show. </p> <p>Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for even being interested in talking to us </p> <p>I was so excited when I got the call that I was going to be able to talk to you all because I'd already seen you posted on your Instagram. Post the preview and I was like oh my god, this is gonna be good.</p> <p>...shenanigans shenanigans. I hope we live up to the teasers that they've been able to put out so we're doing our best.</p> <p>Yeah, they made us look funnier than we may.</p> <p><br></p> <p>you're gonna live up to it. Well, I like to start every interview by asking What is something that you're grateful for?</p> <p>A great way to start an interview, okay.</p> <p>I'm praying I'm Amen.</p> <p>I am grateful for Believe it or not the year 2020 Hmm, I'm grateful for the way in which it has made America the world, pay attention to things that matter. Um, it's very easy to be like 2020 is perfect vision but I feel no one can hide any longer under the guise of being a good person or being a part of a movement that they really aren't a part of. I think although I think that we are removing all the the disingenuous people out of society and we're seeing who people are for who in their true state admit to me, I'd rather know what I'm dealing with and not so for me, grateful for that education. No matter how painful it's been, no matter how hard it's been. I am grateful for that education. This year has been beautiful for me professionally. I walked away and jumped off the ledge of ESPN and decided to trust myself and bet on myself. And it has paid dividends huge. And so this year has been nothing but great for me. I know it sounds horrible to say, but really just looking at it from a big picture, I just see that in society, we have to be at a better place. And we're exposing all of these fakes. And we are letting people who have authentic voices and real true good hearts push through and be elevated. And that's what we need. I think I'm grateful for the season. I mean, because more than I guess, the year because it could be beyond just 2020. I'm grateful for this season in life. You know, I think a lot of black women in particular are stepping into their power. I think we're reflective of being to black women who are stepping into theirs. As Carrie mentioned, she not to me, it feels like you left ESPN like years ago, and it's only been a few months. Yeah. And she got all the jobs, all the jobs, all the jobs, right. So there's something really significant about what she said about betting on yourself. I've been in this season now, since I left ESPN and I left in 2018, where I've just taken all these different chances and risks, and really been very vigilant about not compromising who I am to have work and been very thankful that I don't have to do that, too, in order to work and work abundantly in this business. And so I think that's a big reason why we're at this point right now with this with this show is like we both did the same thing, and that we both bet on ourselves. We both were looking for a situation where we can have maximum autonomy, autonomy, and that will respect our creativity will be more of a collaboration, then I'm working for you that kind of situation.</p>

Before we even start off the show, I want to give a little bit of an introduction. Although you need no introduction, everybody in these comments is already shouting out their favorite characters that you play throughout their lives. I've watched you as Miss Josephine Baker and stomping at the savoy was one of my favorite movies that I watched over and over. As a child growing up, I'm an actress and you have inspired me so much so I just want to say thank you. There are a lot of actresses on here. We just want to thank you for all that you have given us. </p> <p>My goodness. I'm blessed to be actresses though, Ah, it's so good. It's so good. It's such a nice thing. </p> <p>It's such an honorable profession to be a storyteller. And whatever, we have the opportunity to express ourselves that way. And I could see that you really love it. Before I got on this call with you, I was talking to my dad, and my dad doesn't know remember anybody. But Miss Josephine Baker. They made me watch over and over and over and over again as a child.
