Unfiltered faith & justice conversations.
Medene is a black Catholic from California with Pentecostal roots (COGIC). James is a gay Catholic from rural Kentucky.
At a time when millions of us are disaffected from the religion we grew up with, God Talk creates honest dialogue about faith and life. We share our on-going process of deconstructing and reconstructing theological beliefs & spiritual practices.
We commit to social justice, we practice prayer & ritual from multiple traditions, and we welcome disagreement. Welcome to God Talk with Medene and James!
What is God calling you to do with your life? In this episode, we sit down with Fr. Adam McDonald, SVD to discuss the importance of discerning God’s call and discovering our vocation. Together, we explore how we can recognize God’s voice, trust His plan for our lives, and respond with courage and faith. We also explore the life and legacy of St. Arnold Janssen, the founder of the Society of the Divine Word, and how his example of prayer, perseverance, and missionary zeal can inspire us to live out our own vocations.
Whether you’re discerning the priesthood, religious life, marriage, or another path of service, this conversation invites you to reflect on how God may be calling you to serve the people. God has a unique plan for each of us. The question is: Are we listening?
Join us for this meaningful conversation, and be encouraged to open your heart to wherever God may be leading you! If this episode inspires you, be sure to LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and SHARE with someone who is discerning their vocation or seeking to grow closer to God.

Shirley Chisholm's Fearlessness
Saints show us how to live. Shirley Chisholm did that with grace, joy, and determination. The first Black woman elected to Congress, Shirley showed up fearless, fighting members of her own Black Caucus to push for the dignity of workers, women, and those in American systemic poverty.
A proud Bajan - descendent of Barbados, Congresswoman Chisholm took her teacher's perspective to Washington, always saying and doing what she thought was right. She defied the "boys club" by running for president in 1972, sharing her message all the way to the floor of the Democratic National Convention in Miami.
We are grateful to have our friend Jess join us again! Tune in to her the story of her saint: Miss Shirley Chisholm.

Bishop C.H. Mason: Missionary, Unifier, and Mystic
We honor the life of Bishop Charles Harrison Mason, founder of the first Pentecostal denomination, the Church of God in Christ, established in 1907. COGIC is also the largest Black Pentecostal denomination in the world with over 6.5 million members. We discuss him in three modes: as Christian missionary, who went all over the world proclaiming the power of the Holy Spirit and Gospel of Jesus Christ; as spiritual unifier, particularly in the Jim Crow era of America; and finally, as mystic, one who knew that the universe was religious and spiritual, and sought to guide others into the transcendent power of the Spirit.
