God's Balancing Act: Be Humble (Walter McCoy - Gold Medalist Olympian)

What does it take to carry both a gold medal and a humble heart? In this inspiring episode of God’s Balancing Act, host Randy De Girolamo sits down with longtime friend and Olympic gold medalist Walter McCoy for a conversation that goes far beyond the track. Walter shares how his faith was shaped as a young boy in the local church, how his mother’s strength and Reverend York’s guidance helped form his character, and how God carried him through the heartbreak of the 1980 Olympic boycott into the triumph of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. But Walter’s story is not just about winning races. It is about running the right race. From prayer before competition, to caring for children, serving his community, loving his family, and walking faithfully with God through every season, Walter reminds us that true greatness is not found in medals, titles, or applause. It is found in humility, service, compassion, and the steady confidence that “God’s got you.” This episode is a beautiful reminder that the local church still changes lives, faith still gives balance, and a life surrendered to God can become a testimony that keeps speaking long after the race is over.
