Going pro means ‘in motion’. In the process moving towards a better future, it is daily practice of focusing on ‘the process’ instead of focusing on where you want to end up.
This doesn’t simply have to be related to tennis; it can be for all athletic pursuits, in business, in relationships or life in general.
Through conversation we'll be telling stories and extracting practical tools to help people with their growth and how to move towards lasting change for the better.
EP064 - I Was Ready to Quit Professional Tennis… Then Everything Changed | Alexandra Osborne
Alexandra Osborne joins Going Pro by ATA for one of our most honest conversations yet about what it really takes to build a career in professional tennis.Alexandra is an Australian professional tennis player from Sydney who has transitioned into becoming a doubles specialist after playing college tennis at Arizona State University. But her journey is anything but conventional.Alexandra only started playing tennis at around 11½ years old before rapidly progressing through the junior ranks, earning a scholarship to Meriden and eventually making her way to Arizona State. At college, she experienced the highs of winning a Pac-12 Championship and becoming an All-American, but also the frustration of working incredibly hard without securing a regular singles spot. After college, she pursued professional tennis and eventually transitioned towards doubles. In this conversation, Alexandra opens up about the realities of life on tour — including the financial pressure, constant uncertainty, crazy travel, injuries, and the mental challenges that come with trying to make a living as a professional tennis player.Perhaps most surprisingly, Alexandra reveals that she seriously considered finishing her tennis career in 2026.Instead, she decided to take things week by week — and has gone on to have the best year of her career. We also get into the role faith has played in changing her perspective on tennis, why she now competes with more freedom and joy, her incredible story of being called to play Venus Williams at short notice, and why she believes doubles could be crucial to the future of tennis. We discuss:🎾 Starting tennis at 11½ and catching up🎓 The reality of college tennis in America🔥 Winning a Pac-12 Championship & becoming an All-American💰 The financial reality of professional tennis✈️ The insane travel and uncertainty of life on the doubles tour🧠 Mental health, pressure and identity in professional sport🙏 Faith, purpose and competing with freedom🏆 Why Alexandra nearly quit tennis👑 Playing Venus Williams and Alex Eala🤝 Why doubles matters to the future of tennis📈 How tennis can better support professional players📱 Social media, player branding and growing doubles🎾 Why Australia has historically produced so many great doubles playersIf you're a junior player, parent, coach or simply interested in what professional tennis is really like behind the scenes, this episode is for you.Subscribe to Going Pro by ATA for more conversations with professional players, coaches and people working behind the scenes of the tennis world.00:00 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZA0XZ965z4) – Intro: Alexandra Osborne & Her Journey00:50 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZA0XZ965z4&t=50s) – Starting Tennis at 11½ Years Old03:30 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZA0XZ965z4&t=210s) – The College Tennis Journey at Arizona State14:50 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZA0XZ965z4&t=890s) – Making the Transition to Professional Tennis21:51 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZA0XZ965z4&t=1311s) – Why Alexandra Nearly Quit Tennis26:06 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZA0XZ965z4&t=1566s) – Finding Purpose Beyond Tennis Results38:50 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZA0XZ965z4&t=2330s) – The Financial Reality of Professional Tennis41:16 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZA0XZ965z4&t=2476s) – Life on Tour & The Venus Williams Story48:27 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZA0XZ965z4&t=2907s&pp=0gcJCWMAwfN6Pr3D) – The Future of Professional Doubles52:37 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZA0XZ965z4&t=3157s) – Why Doubles Matters to the Future of Tennis57:35 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZA0XZ965z4&t=3455s) – How Tennis Could Better Support Doubles Players01:02:24 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZA0XZ965z4&t=3744s) – Why Doubles Players Need to Be “Rogue”#Tennis (https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/tennis) #ProfessionalTennis (https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/professionaltennis) #AlexandraOsborne (https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/alexandraosborne) #DoublesTennis (https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/doublestennis) #GoingPro (https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/goingpro)

EP063 - Why Most Tennis Players Never Reach Their Potential | Richard Brice (Tennis Hacker)
What if the biggest thing holding back your tennis isn't your technique? In this episode of Going Pro by ATA, I sit down with Richard Brice (Tennis Hacker) to explore the world of brain-based tennis training, visual performance, coordination, focus, and the hidden systems that influence how you move, track the ball, and perform under pressure.Richard shares how a serious mountain bike accident led him into applied neurology and ultimately transformed his own tennis. After six months off court with a separated collarbone, he returned with better timing, cleaner ball striking, and a completely different understanding of performance. We discuss:• Why some players struggle to improve despite practicing hard• The connection between vision, balance, coordination and performance• Why focus and concentration might not be a mindset problem• Brain training exercises used by professional players• How Richard learned to play tennis left-handed after injury• Why some players constantly mistime the ball• The effects of screens and technology on tennis performance• How brain-based training can impact life beyond sportWhether you're a coach, parent, competitor, or serious tennis player, this conversation will challenge the way you think about performance development.🎾 Follow Richard Brice (Tennis Hacker)YouTube: Tennis HackerWebsite: tennishacker.net🎙️ Going Pro by ATAHosted by Luke SebastianiIf you enjoyed this episode, make sure to subscribe, leave a review, and share it with another tennis player.
