How to Buy Real Estate in Colombia - Gone Native Podcast Ep. 20

<p>Lina and I are in Choachí, Cundinamarca this week, talking about the experience we had looking for property to buy in Colombia. My idea was to buy a piece of cheap land and build a house on it, which has been an adventure a year and a half in the making so far. Nothing is built yet, but we’re getting close to breaking ground.</p><p>We also talk about the Spanish cargo/treasure ship, the galeón San José, sunk in 1708 by British pirates, off the coast of Cartagena. Colombia, other South American countries, indigenous groups, American treasure hunters, and even the Spanish government are getting involved.</p><p>This week on the podcast:</p><p>1:12 - Buying land in Colombia </p><p>39:55 - San José galleon (sunken Spanish treasure ship)</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://youtu.be/F6yb56EOsVA">Watch the video version on YouTube</a></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://gonenative.substack.com/">Find all my articles, essays, podcasts, documentaries, and more on Substack.</a></p><p>Subscribe to this <a target="_blank" href="https://gonenative.substack.com/podcast">podcast audio</a>:</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://api.substack.com/feed/podcast/666171.rss">RSS</a></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/gone-native/id1498257958">Apple</a></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://open.spotify.com/show/1zZ5HCEOeKMhSNJjhOJVbP">Spotify</a></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hcGkuc3Vic3RhY2suY29tL2ZlZWQvcG9kY2FzdC82NjYxNzEucnNz">Google</a> / <a target="_blank" href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLQL5Zt9TlRs8wyQ3hocFZO5ecu4WMgJi">YouTube</a></p><p>Follow Gone Native on social media:</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.facebook.com/gonenativemedia">Facebook</a></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.instagram.com/gonenativemedia">Instagram</a></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.twitter.com/gonenativemedia">Twitter/X</a></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/gonenativemedia">LinkedIn</a></p><p>If you have any tips on stories in the region I might have missed, something you would like me to comment on in future shows, or anything at all really, just drop me a line.</p><p>You can get in touch through <a target="_blank" href="https://gonenative.substack.com">Substack</a>, social media (@gonenativemedia on all platforms), or via my website: <a target="_blank" href="https://www.milesburke.net">milesburke.net</a></p><p>¡Saludos!</p> <br/><br/>This is a public episode. Big Trouble in Little Guyana

<p>A few months ago, I started to hear rumblings about Nicolás Maduro, the erstwhile dictator of Venezuela, wanting his country to annex part of Guyana, the tiny and (until now) politically insignificant country bordering Venezuela to the east. </p><p>Listen to the audio narration, or <a target="_blank" href="https://gonenative.substack.com/p/big-trouble-in-little-guyana">read the text of this article</a> on Substack.</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://gonenative.substack.com">Check out my other podcasts, articles, documentaries, and more on Substack.</a></p><p>Subscribe to this <a target="_blank" href="https://gonenative.substack.com/podcast">podcast</a> audio:</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://api.substack.com/feed/podcast/666171.rss">RSS</a></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/gone-native/id1498257958">Apple</a></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://open.spotify.com/show/1zZ5HCEOeKMhSNJjhOJVbP">Spotify</a></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hcGkuc3Vic3RhY2suY29tL2ZlZWQvcG9kY2FzdC82NjYxNzEucnNz">Google</a> / <a target="_blank" href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLQL5Zt9TlRs8wyQ3hocFZO5ecu4WMgJi">YouTube</a></p><p>Follow Gone Native on social media:</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.facebook.com/gonenativemedia">Facebook</a></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.instagram.com/gonenativemedia">Instagram</a></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.twitter.com/gonenativemedia">Twitter/X</a></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/gonenativemedia">LinkedIn</a></p><p>If you have any tips on stories in the region I might have missed, something you would like me to look into or comment on, or anything at all really, just drop me a line.</p><p>You can get in touch through <a target="_blank" href="https://gonenative.substack.com">Substack</a>, social media (@gonenativemedia on all platforms), or via my website: <a target="_blank" href="https://www.milesburke.net">milesburke.net</a></p><p>¡Saludos!</p> <br/><br/>This is a public episode.
