Is It Harder to Hear God or Obey Him? (with Cathy Garland)
In this episode of Good Enough for God, Dayna Richards sits down with author, prayer warrior, church counselor, and deliverance advocate Cathy Garland to unpack what it truly means to cultivate "Revelationship"—a transformative, intimate relationship with Christ.
Cathy shares her heart for helping women hear the voice of God, discern His direction, and step out in obedience without waiting for a neat five-point plan. Drawing from scripture and her personal journey through deep loss, neck injuries, and divorce, Cathy illustrates how leaning into God’s character—such as El Roi, the God who sees us—changes how we view suffering, identity, and calling.
In the second half of the interview, Dayna and Cathy dive deep into deliverance ministry, historic discipleship practices of the early church, breaking the power of curses and negative word spoken over us, uprooting the spirit of rejection and jealousy, and dismantling the "bondage of balance" in a woman’s life.
Key Takeaways & Highlights
What is "Revelationship"? How God reveals Himself to us through Scripture, nature, and life's trials for the purpose of deep relationship.
Ditching the Five-Point Plan: Why God rarely gives us a complete roadmap (e.g., Abraham) and why obedience often means taking one step at a time.
Suffering & El Roi: Understanding God’s unchanging character as the One who sees our pain and injustice, using Hagar’s story as a backdrop for healing.
Deliverance & Early Church Discipleship: How the early church practiced deliverance as part of basic discipleship (catechesis) and why repentance and renunciation are still essential today.
Breaking Word Curses & The Power of the Tongue: Why we must actively reject negative words spoken over us or our children (e.g., jealousy, "too much", or negative medical diagnoses) and align with life (Proverbs 18:21).
Overcoming the Spirit of Rejection & Jealousy: Recognizing how mind pathways are formed by past wounds and praying for the Holy Spirit to heal brain pathways.
The "Bondage of Balance" vs. Seasons: Why trying to balance everything like a Hindu concept breaks our bodies, and how putting God at the center of the wheel brings freedom.

Quotes from the Episode
"If you want to know God's will for your life: Say yes to God every time He speaks, and no to the devil, and by the end of your life you'll have lived the full breadth of what He called you to do." — Fuchsia Pickett / Cathy Garland
"When we know who God is as revealed through Scripture, then we know who we are. And when we know who we are, we have our purpose." — Cathy Garland
"Demons are lying liars. When a lie comes to your mind, you don't have to accept it. You can stop it and say, 'I do not accept those words.'" — Cathy Garland
"We as Christians have to believe in the X factor, which is the Holy Spirit. And if He jolly well wants to heal somebody, He will jolly well heal them." — Cathy Garland
"The 'bondage of balance' is a myth breaking women's bodies down. The correct prioritization for us isn't a linear list—it's God at the center, with everything else spoking off from that." — Cathy Garland
