1971 – Hugo Sigal, samen met Lily Castel
“We zouden in Dublin onze verloving vieren, maar het mocht niet zijn.” In 1971 spatte de droom van Nicole & Hugo uit elkaar, want Nicole kreeg 5 dagen voor vertrek geelzucht. Ze werden vervangen door Jacques Raymond en Lily Castel. Hugo is er hen nog altijd dankbaar voor. En Lily is nog altijd boos op de BRT. “Niemand hield zich met ons lot bezig. Ik ben op de finaledag zelf nog mijn kleed gaan kopen. En na afloop heeft er niemand ons bedankt voor die prestatie. Onbeschoft was het.”

2015: Tom Dice
“Je moet dat voor je zien. Ik, alleen met mijn gitaar op dat grote podium. Dat gaat fijn zijn.” Tom Dice geloofde 15 jaar in zijn kansen op het Songfestival. En terecht! Hij werd zesde, nog altijd het beste Vlaamse resultaat. Ook naast het podium leverde hij straffe prestaties, met de Poolse zangeres Weronika Bochat. Ze beleefden een paar wilde nachten, mét de maagd Maria. Tom vertelt ook over Willy’s en Marjetten’. “We keken daarnaar vlak voor we op moesten, ideaal tegen de stress.”

1993: Barbara Dex
“Ik vond die hele hetze over mijn kleed zwaar overroepen, maar ik zit er niet mee.” In 1993 ging Barbara Dex naar het Songfestival. In een kleed dat velen lelijk vonden, maar met een nummer dat vandaag nog mooier klinkt dan toen. “Ik zing ‘Iemand Als Jij’ nog élk optreden. Dat moet gewoon.” Barbara vertelt over de paardenstal van Millstreet, de gekke plek waar het festival toen doorging. En ze neemt je mee naar een… grot! Waar vandaag nog altijd een vleugje Barbara hangt.
