Goodnight Planet: Kids Bedtime Stories

About Goodnight Planet: Kids Bedtime Stories

Created by a kindergarten teacher fascinated by the half hour before sleep, Goodnight Planet treats bedtime not as a switch, but as a gentle bridge. Each story begins by accepting that a child may not feel sleepy yet. Children follow the narration to complete small settling-down missions for familiar toys, animals, rooms, and everyday objects. As the world around them grows safe and quiet, their attention turns inward. Calm but never passive, these stories invite children ages 2–8 to rediscover ordinary life from a new perspective and approach rest with satisfaction and accomplishment.

Can You Help the Little Friends Under Your Bed Settle Down? | Bedtime Story for Kids

Tonight, a few little friends are resting in the quiet space under the bed. A little ball rolled there long ago and is still hoping someone will find it. A familiar little block misses the other blocks from its set. And a missing sock is waiting to be found, washed clean, and reunited with its matching sock. Can your child help each one settle down? From the comfort of bed, your child can follow the narration and imagine whispering gentle promises: the little ball can be found and dusted in the morning, the little block can return to its friends tomorrow, and the little sock can soon be clean and together with its matching pair again. Tonight, each little friend can rest safely where it is. As the ball stops waiting, the block stops worrying, and the sock uncurls and softens, everything under the bed grows quiet. With that gentle sense of completion, your child is invited to let their own body settle into bed and remember that not everything needs to be done tonight. ABOUT GOODNIGHT PLANET As a kindergarten teacher, I have always been fascinated by the half hour before a child falls asleep. I do not think bedtime should feel like a switch, suddenly turning a lively child from awake to asleep. At its best, the bedtime half hour feels more like a bridge. On one side is a busy body, an active mind, and perhaps a few feelings that have not yet found somewhere to land. On the other side is a child returning to their own small inner universe—growing quieter, noticing how they feel, and becoming ready to rest with a sense of happiness or accomplishment. That is why I created the first Goodnight Planet story collection: a series in which the child becomes the one who helps the world settle down. Every story begins by accepting that the child may not feel sleepy yet. Instead of immediately asking them to be still or close their eyes, the story gives them a few small bedtime missions. Guided by the narration, children notice what a little friend needs, imagine a gentle action, and discover what changes after they help. As the toys, rooms, animals, and familiar places in the story become settled, children are gradually invited to gather their own thoughts and become ready for rest. By helping a little ball, a lost block, and a missing sock wait safely until morning, children can explore the gentle idea that not everything needs to be finished tonight. Goodnight Planet does not ask children to leave their everyday world behind. It invites them to return to it with fresh attention—to notice familiar things from a new perspective and discover that even the smallest acts of care can make something feel safer, calmer, or more complete. The stories are quiet, but never passive. Each one offers children something to notice, something meaningful to do, and a gentle sense of completion to carry toward sleep. Story themes: Kindness, Patience, Caring for Familiar Things, Feeling Safe, Letting Things Wait Until Morning, Body Awareness, Bedtime Routines. Children can participate entirely through imagination while resting safely in bed. Recommended for children ages 2–8 and their grown-ups at bedtime. If your family enjoys this story, follow Goodnight Planet and leave a rating to help more families discover our little world.

Can You Help Your Closet Friends Settle Down? | Bedtime Story for Kids

Tonight, a few little closet friends are not quite ready to rest. A clean sheet and fresh duvet cover are worried that someone might take them out to work tonight. A cozy pair of pajamas wonders whether it will be needed again before morning. And a little scented pouch is quietly worried that its sweet, fresh smell might disappear while it sleeps. Can your child help each one settle down? From the comfort of bed, your child can follow the narration and imagine each gentle action: smoothing the folded sheet and duvet cover, tucking in a pajama sleeve and pant leg, and taking one slow breath to notice that the little scented pouch is still doing its quiet job. One by one, each closet friend learns that it is safe to rest right where it belongs. At the end, the closet door closes softly, and everything inside grows still—the clean linens, the pajamas, the little scented pouch, the shelves, and the folded clothes. With that gentle sense of safety and order, your child is invited to let their own body relax, their breathing slow down, and their eyes become heavy for sleep. Can You Help Your Sofa Friends Settle Down? | Bedtime Story for Kids

Tonight, three little sofa friends are not quite ready to rest. A tired remote control is lost on the sofa instead of resting in its usual little spot. A soft little blanket is warm and cozy, but too wrinkled to get comfortable. And three sleepy sofa pillows are all out of place—one sideways, one upside down, and one almost falling over. Can your child help each one settle down? From the comfort of bed, your child can follow the narration and imagine each gentle action: returning the remote control to its familiar place, smoothing the little blanket across the sofa, and placing the pillows softly beside one another. One by one, each sofa friend becomes cozy, still, and ready for sleep. As the remote, blanket, and pillows settle into place, the whole sofa grows quiet. Everything is soft. Everything is resting. With that gentle sense of order, your child is invited to let their own shoulders relax, their hands grow still, and their body become warm and heavy for sleep. Can You Help the Study Room Settle Down? | Bedtime Story for Kids

Tonight, three little study room friends are not quite ready to rest. A tired computer is still thinking about unfinished work. A sleepy desk lamp is worried that someone might need its light for one more book. And a little alarm clock feels that something is unfinished and wants to be sure everything is ready for morning. Can your child help each one settle down? From the comfort of bed, your child can follow the narration and imagine each gentle action: pressing the computer’s power button so its bright screen grows dark, switching off the desk lamp so it can let go of its light, and checking that the alarm clock is ready for tomorrow. One by one, each little friend discovers that its work for tonight is done. As the whole study room grows quiet, the alarm clock keeps its soft, steady tick-tock. The books, the desk, the chair, and even the pencils in their cup are resting. With that gentle rhythm, your child is invited to let their shoulders soften, their hands grow still, and tomorrow’s tasks wait until morning. Can You Help Your Balcony Friends Settle Down? | Bedtime Story for Kids

Tonight, three little balcony friends are not quite ready to rest. A pair of freshly washed socks is worried about slipping from the drying rack. A tired watering can is leaning sideways, afraid that the water inside might spill. And a sleepy wind chime is waiting for one last visit from the gentle night breeze. Can your child help each one settle down? From the comfort of bed, your child can follow the narration and imagine each gentle action: securing the little socks with a clothespin, standing the watering can upright so it feels steady, and waiting quietly beside the wind chime until the breeze arrives. Sometimes helping means doing something small. Sometimes it means simply staying close and listening. As the wind chime finishes its last little song, the whole balcony gradually settles down—the socks, the watering can, the drying rack, and the window. With each little friend resting, your child is gently invited to imagine the soft night breeze, notice a sleepy yawn, and let their own body relax. Can You Help the Friends by the Rainy Window Settle Down? | Bedtime Story for Kids

Tonight, three little friends by the rainy window are not quite ready to rest. A tired spider keeps repairing the little holes that rain has made in her web. A little moth with damp wings is tapping softly against the glass, drawn to the warm glow inside. And a slow little snail is looking for somewhere to rest after a long journey through the rain. Can your child help each one settle down? From the comfort of bed, your child can follow the narration and imagine each gentle action: pointing the spider toward a dry corner for her new web, softening the light to guide the moth toward a quiet resting spot, and showing the snail a sheltered, flat little ledge. Throughout the story, the child stays warm inside, the window remains safely closed, and the little friends stay outside. As the moth and snail settle into rest, the spider finishes her new web and closes her eyes too. The rain keeps falling, but the little world by the window grows quiet—and your child is gently invited to let their own shoulders soften, their hands rest, and their feet become still. Tonight, three pairs of family shoes are not quite ready to rest. Daddy’s big shoes are still thinking about flower beds, little bees, and the round stones along the path.
