I was in college at the time, and the profundity of it has grown and grown throughout the years as I've digested that song. It's actually the final original studio song that Rich Mullins ever recorded and released. It is called We Are Not As Strong As We Think We Are. It came out on the Greatest Hits Songs Project in 1995, just a couple years before he passed away. And it makes our list of the top 25 Rich Mullen songs of all time. It lands at number 15.
