KOMBINATAS 2025 | Sustainable development – new economic, environmental, social system for human survival - Jurgis Kazimieras Staniškis
Recorded live on the main stage of the Kombinatas festival 2025, former UN Independent Group of Scientists member Prof. Jurgis Kazimieras Staniškis delivers a compelling keynote address on the urgent need for a systemic paradigm shift in global sustainability. Beginning with the cautionary tale of Easter Island's ecological collapse, Staniškis critiques free-market GDP growth imperatives and warns that incremental technical fixes are insufficient to prevent reaching critical global tipping points. Drawing on his work with the United Nations Global Sustainable Development Report, he advocates for dismantling rigid institutional frameworks in favor of transdisciplinary education, systemic policy transformations, and a foundational realignment of human values toward cooperation, ethics, and ecological balance.
