The Weight of His Covenant
It is remarkably easy to carry all the right religious symbols whilst quietly living however we please. We might read a passage in the morning, wear a cross, or offer a generous gift, yet treat God rather like a waiter in a restaurant — ignoring Him until we suddenly need a rescue.
Looking at the dramatic narrative of 1 Samuel, we discover what happens when God’s people mistake an ornamental ark for genuine obedience. Carrying a sacred object into battle cannot force God to act on our behalf if our hearts are wandering elsewhere. The sobering reality is that self-indulgence and rival affections rob God of His rightful glory, causing His presence to depart. Yet, when we genuinely turn our hearts back, confess our sins, and take real action, every false god is brought down before His weight and majesty.
