About Grace in the Breaking

Grace in the Breaking is a faith-anchored podcast for anyone walking through loss, uncertainty, or seasons that feel overwhelming. Hosted by Elizabeth Everett, the show explores what happens when life strips away what once felt secure—and God reveals what truly remains. After a rapid unraveling of health, marriage, career, relationships, and watching her son battle addiction, Elizabeth found herself at the end of her own strength. It was there—pressed, undone, and surrendered—that she discovered a deeper truth: God was enough, and she was never alone. Each episode creates a safe, honest space for those whose faith has been tested by fire. Grace in the Breaking speaks to unanswered prayers, silent waiting, and the refining moments that feel like loss but are actually preparation. Through real stories, reflection, and hope rooted in Scripture, the podcast reminds listeners that purpose is often born in the pressing—and grace meets us right in the middle of the breaking.

Episode 38 - Why You Can't Rest: The Spirit of Rejection Hiding Behind Your Performance

Published 29 Sept 2026 · Transcript excerpt

[…] Isolation. The logic feels airtight. If you don't let anyone close, no one else can reject me again. Distance, it feels like safety. It's fear dressed up as wisdom. And then there's control, number two. If I can manage every variable, every outcome, every conversation, then no one gets the chance to choose against me because I've already engineered that result. Number three is performance. If I'm valuable enough, if I'm impressive enough, needed enough, excellent enough, then leaving me becomes too costly for anyone to actually do it. And then number four, honey, that is numbness. If I simply stop feeling much of anything, it can't hurt as badly the next time it happens. […]
