The sermon examines James 5:1-6 as a prophetic warning against the self-indulgent and exploitative lifestyles of wealthy unbelievers who oppress the poor. It highlights three specific miseries: the rotting of earthly treasures that will testify against their owners, the divine justice that hears the cries of defrauded laborers, and the inevitable condemnation of those who murder the righteous. The message contrasts the fleeting nature of material wealth with the eternal security found in Christ, urging believers to examine where their true treasure lies. While the text serves as a sobering indictment of injustice and greed, it ultimately points to the gospel, where Christ stands in the place of the condemned to offer redemption and vindication to those who trust in Him.

When Power Preys
Much of this chapter reveals God's hatred of social injustice. When the powerful exploit and ruin the weak and the marginalized, God takes note. When they heap up "preachers" who condone their corruption, while tearing down those who stand up to them, God is righteously angry. But Micah's first oracle (chapters 1-2) concludes with the portrait of a Shepherd-King who knows his own and comes to break them out of social and spiritual bondage.

Lord of the Nations
This sermon explores the prophetic judgments against surrounding nations in Ezekiel chapters 25 through 28, highlighting how God uses these judgments to reveal His holiness and sovereignty. The central theme asserts that while God disciplines His own people for sin, He also holds other nations accountable for their contempt, pride, and greed, ensuring that His justice is not overlooked. The text emphasizes that the purpose of this judgment is not merely punishment but the vindication of God's character and the preservation of His covenant people. By contrasting the sinful attitudes of nations like Tyre and Sidon with the humility of Christ in Philippians 2, the message calls believers to reject self-deification and false security. Ultimately, the sermon points to the Messiah as the solution to human sin, offering hope and restoration to those who trust in God's grace.
