Sie blickt aus dem Fenster sieht Fahnen und hört abermals den Satz „Wir sind frei“. Auf den Straßen sehen sie die ersten russischen Soldaten, junge Mädchen in Uniform, die den Verkehr regeln. In einem Einspänner fährt Mary mit ihren griechischen Freunden Richtung Wien.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Jahre nach dem Krieg treffen sich Mary Parianou und Sofia Mavrakis in Athen. Unabhängig von einander haben sie ihre Erinnerungen geschrieben.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Die Geschichte von Mary Parianou wurde von der Historikerin Maria Spiliotopoulou aufgezeichnet und von Marianna Chalari ins Deutsche übertragen und wird von Bettina Rossbacher gelesen. Wir sind frei. Tatsächlich öffnen sich die Zellentüren. Gemeinsam mit Sofia Mavrakis versteckt sich Mary mit französischen Gefangenen in einer Fabrik. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Alle Gefangenen wissen, nach dem Massaker in Stein, dass sie zwar frei aber keineswegs in Sicherheit sind. Mary und Sofia versorgen in Höhlen versteckte Gefangene mit Essen. Mary wird abermals verhaftet. <br /> <br /> <br /> <a href="https://streibel.at/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/stavros.jpg"></a>Mary Parianou<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Mary wird in ein anderes Gefängnis verlegt, aber die Aufseherin Hedwig Stocker verspricht ihr, dass dies nur zu ihrem Schutz sei und sie nach kurzer Zeit wieder nach Krems zurückkomme. Im neuen Gefängnis trifft Mary Frauen aus dem Dorf Livadia auf dem Pelopones. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Sie erlebt den Widerstand von Frauen, die sich gegen unmenschliche Behandlung zur Wehr setzen. Mary widersetzt sich dem Angebot eines Offiziers und blickt in den Lauf einer Pistole. Mary hat Glück. Kurze Zeit danach verhilft sie einer Mitgefangenen zur Flucht.
