Beyond Us | Beyond Your Lifetime | Villas Church

What if the path to real fruitfulness is not holding on tighter, but letting go completely? Caleb Hines and Brian Cooper unpack John 12:24 to show why Jesus' grain-of-wheat parable is not just about His death, but about the costly, countercultural life of every disciple who follows Him. The conversation starts with the Greeks who come seeking Jesus and the stunning moment that signals a major shift: the nations are now at the door. Brian explains why Jesus' response reveals a turning point in the story, when global multiplication begins and the mission of God expands beyond the familiar and comfortable. From there, the discussion moves into the hard edge of discipleship. You'll discover why Jesus' death is unique, once for all, and why our surrender is different - not redemptive, but fruitful. Caleb and Brian break down the difference between Christ's atoning work and the call on our lives to fall like a seed, release control, and make space for the Holy Spirit to produce more through us. They also tackle the language of "hating your life" in John 12:25, showing why Jesus is not inviting self-loathing or recklessness, but total surrender. Along the way, they compare the grain left isolated in a granary with the grain that dies and multiplies, and connect the passage to John 15's call to remain in Christ so true fruitfulness can flow from connection, not hoarding. You'll hear powerful examples from Jeremiah and Paul, including the reality that some people never see the fruit of their labor in their lifetime - but still produce abundance for generations to come. The episode also confronts a deeply modern assumption: that serving God has an expiration date. Caleb and Brian make the case that biblical faithfulness does not retire when energy runs low or age goes up. This is a timely reminder for anyone tempted toward comfort, isolation, or spiritual self-protection. If you've ever wondered whether your surrender matters, whether your years of service are "enough," or whether your life can still bless people beyond you, this conversation will challenge and encourage you. Essential listening if you want a bigger vision for discipleship, multiplication, and a faith designed not for isolation, but for the people beyond us.

Beyond Us | Beyond Your Lifetime | Pastor Brian Cooper

Jeremiah 29:11 is not the individual success verse most people think it is. Caleb Hines and Brian Cooper unpack why this famous passage lands very differently once you read it in context—and why its message may be more challenging, and more hopeful, than the coffee mug version. They trace the real setting of the exile in Babylon, where God’s people were told to settle in, build houses, plant gardens, and seek the peace of a foreign city they did not want to call home. Along the way, they break down the tension between the popular two-year promise of Hananiah and Jeremiah’s harder word of generational faithfulness, plus the surprising way this all points beyond Israel’s return to Christ and the church’s waiting. You'll discover: Why Jeremiah 29 was written to a people, not just a person How a prison-cell analogy helps make sense of the exile Why “you” in Scripture is often plural and communal What it means to seek Babylon’s peace without being shaped by Babylon How false hope can sound spiritual while asking for nothing Why Hebrews 11 changes how we understand promises we may never see completed Caleb and Brian also connect this passage to Daniel, Jonah, and the wider gospel story, showing how faithfulness in hard places often means staying rooted, not escaping fast. If you’ve ever wanted Jeremiah 29:11 to mean more than personal comfort, this conversation will change how you read it.Essential listening for anyone who wants a deeper, more responsible, and more hope-filled way to understand one of the Bible’s most quoted verses.

Capacity | Make Room | Pastor Brian

Jesus does not pray because he is weak. He prays because dependence on the Father is the shape of real strength - and that changes everything about how you think about solitude, purpose, and spiritual growth.Pastor Caleb Hines and Lead Pastor Brian Cooper unpack Mark 1's surprising picture of Jesus: getting up before dawn, stepping away from the crowd, and choosing the wilderness before the work begins. What looks like a simple prayer habit turns out to be a deeper pattern woven throughout Mark's fast-moving Gospel - one that reveals how Jesus stays aligned with the Father's mission instead of the pressure of momentum, popularity, or human expectations. You'll discover why the wilderness is both dangerous and sacred, how the Greek idea of Eremos frames solitude as a threshold where self-reliance runs out, and why Mark keeps showing Jesus withdrawing to pray even when the crowds are pulling hard. Brian also breaks down the disciples' urgency, the temptation to chase "viral" ministry, and the difference between meeting real needs and letting crowd demand define your calling. We break down why Jesus says, "This is why I have come," how that line clarifies mission beyond logistics, and why his early-morning prayer life is not a burnout strategy but a model of intentional alignment. You’ll also hear how this passage answers a common question: if Jesus is God, why does he pray? The answer points to obedience, sonship, and a fully human life lived in complete trust.Caleb and Brian also press into the practical side: what does solitude look like for a night-shift nurse, a single parent, or anyone who cannot simply "wake up before everyone else"? The answer is both challenging and freeing - the principle is non-negotiable, but the form is flexible. What matters is protected space with God before the crowd, the algorithms, obligations, and fears start leading you somewhere else.If you’ve ever felt too busy, too distracted, or too full of the wrong things to hear from God, this conversation will help you see why making room is not optional. Essential listening for anyone who wants to build a life with real spiritual capacity instead of living at the mercy of momentum.
