Blacko-nomics - Making Something out of Nothing.

Blacko-nomics: Making Something Out of Nothing | Season 2, Episode 3 We've been making something out of nothing for generations. But at what cost, and what will it take for Black women to move from simply surviving to truly thriving? In this episode of Group Chat Over Brunch, we're talking Black economics, financial freedom, entrepreneurship, and the power of community. Filmed at the beautiful Batuqui Brazilian Restaurant in Cleveland, we explore the economic realities of being a Black woman, particularly in a city that has historically ranked among the worst for Black women's economic outcomes. We get personal about our own journeys, from navigating single motherhood and financial hardship to climbing the corporate ladder, taking risks, building businesses, and learning when it's time to pivot. We also celebrate the Black entrepreneurs who have helped shape Cleveland and the women who continue to create opportunities for themselves and their communities. And, of course, we talk about sisterhood. Because sometimes the difference between where you are and where you want to be is someone willing to open a door. This conversation is about recognizing the power we already have, challenging the systems that limit us, and being intentional about building the futures we deserve. Pull up a chair and join the group chat! We'd love to hear your thoughts. What's the most valuable financial or career lesson you've learned, and what would you tell your younger self? 🎙️ Watch the full episode on YouTube (https://youtu.be/A5WW2FYVClg), and follow Group Chat Over Brunch on Instagram for more conversations, clips, and behind-the-scenes moments. #GroupChatOverBrunch #Blackonomics #BlackWomen #FinancialFreedom #BlackEntrepreneurship

Did Black love break your heart—or did it teach you how to love differently?

What happens when the love we learned as children follows us into the relationships we choose as adults? In this episode of Group Chat Over Brunch, we're asking whether Black love is really in crisis—or whether it's simply evolving. With guest Callie joining the table, we get personal about fathers and first heartbreaks, toxic love, attachment patterns, friendship, marriage, therapy, forgiveness, red flags and the ways our childhood experiences can quietly shape who—and how—we love. We also talk about what changes after 40. When you've built a life of your own, love starts looking less like someone coming to complete or rescue you and more like companionship, honesty, friendship, fun, emotional safety and, perhaps most importantly, someone who doesn't disrupt your peace. There are laughs, hard truths and one unexpected realization that changes the conversation in real time. So, did Black love break our hearts? Maybe. But perhaps heartbreak isn't the end of the story. Black love isn't dying. Black love is evolving.

We Knew Every Word... But Did We Hear the Lyrics?

Episode 1 | We Knew Every Word... But Did We Hear the Lyrics? Music has a way of taking us back. One song can transport you to your first love, your college days, that family cookout, or a night out with your girls. The soundtrack of our lives is full of memories—but what about the messages? In our Season 2 premiere, we're asking a question we probably should've asked years ago... What were we really listening to? As teenagers and young adults, we knew every lyric. We memorized the hooks, learned the dances, and let the music become the backdrop to some of the biggest moments of our lives. But now that we've lived a little, we hear those same songs differently. Some lyrics celebrated women. Others normalized disrespect, unhealthy relationships, and ideas we absorbed without even realizing it. We explore the tension between loving the music and questioning the message, while giving flowers to artists like Queen Latifah, whose music challenged us to think differently. This isn't about judging the music we grew up on. It's about reflecting on the impact it had, the conversations it started, and what we choose to carry forward. As always, we laugh, disagree, tell on ourselves a little, and leave with more questions than we started with—which is exactly how brunch should be. We'd love to hear from you. 🎵 What's one song you loved back then that you hear completely differently today? Join the conversation in the comments, and don't forget to subscribe, like, and share if this episode made you think, laugh, or call your friends to debate your playlist. 🎵 Theme Song by: Nana Kwabena

The Cost of Being “The Strong One” | Group Chat Over Brunch Podcast

What happens when being “strong” stops being a choice — and becomes an expectation? In this episode of Group Chat Over Brunch, we gather at Rood, a space that feels warm, grounded, and intentional, to unpack the emotional, mental, and physical cost of always being the one who holds everything together. So many women are praised for their strength — yet rarely supported because of it. In this conversation, we name the unseen labor behind being “the strong one”: emotional caretaking, mental load, unpaid care work, and the quiet burnout that follows when rest feels like guilt.Using real experiences and research, we explore:• When strength is chosen vs. assigned• How emotional labor shows up in our bodies• Why people confuse strength with availability• What happens when the fixer finally stops fixing• How to ask for help after a lifetime of being relied onWe also sit with a grounding truth: women perform nearly 75% of unpaid domestic and care work worldwide, a burden directly linked to chronic stress and burnout. This episode is for the woman who shows up, holds it down, keeps the wheels turning — and rarely gets asked how she is doing. It’s a reminder that strength does not have to mean solitude, and that being held is just as powerful as holding.✨ If this conversation resonates, send it to someone who’s always “the strong one.”They deserve support too.👉 LIKE this video if it spoke to you👉 SUBSCRIBE for more honest conversations centered on women’s lived experiences👉 SHARE with someone who needs permission to rest

Generational Love and Healing: From Fear to Freedom

Generational Love & Healing: From Fear to Freedom | Group Chat Over BrunchWhat if the way we were taught to love… was rooted in fear? And what if we had the power to change that story — starting now?In this episode of Group Chat Over Brunch, we gather at the table to talk about generational love, healing, and the unlearning required to move from control to liberation. For many of us, love came wrapped in survival — yelling, silence, punishment, and emotional restraint. But love was never meant to confine us. It was meant to set us free.Together, we unpack:✨ How fear-based love shows up in Black families✨ The “love deflectors” we inherited — and how to release them✨ Parenting (and re-parenting ourselves) with intention✨ What it means to love in ways that allow, not restrict✨ How to give the next generation emotional freedom we didn’t always receiveWe also respond to powerful questions from younger women navigating motherhood, boundaries, and emotionally intelligent parenting — because healing doesn’t stop with us.This episode is honest, reflective, and necessary. It’s about choosing love that liberates — not love that controls.Pull up a seat. In this episode of Group Chat Over Brunch, we’re talking about something Black women over 40 don’t say out loud nearly enough: sex gets better with age. Period.
