Detroit's Movement Festival: The Pilgrimage to Techno Mecca
<p>In episode 8 of the<a href="https://open.spotify.com/show/5iw4bkUEoGcbkvkyYBtPA8?si=gxxGALnYRW-xc6vb5QkAhQ"> GSGEDM Behind-The-Scenes podcast</a>, the <i>GSGEDM</i> Team appreciates Detroit for its local community and its international reach as a hub for dance music.<a href="https://www.movement.us/%C2%A0"> Movement Festival</a> has been the foundation of techno tourism in Detroit, since its beginnings as the Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2001. It is also the foundation of the <i>GSGEDM</i> film - shooting began there in 2011 to tell The Story of Detroit Techno. Movement encourages the Memorial Day Weekend pilgrimage that techno fans all over the world take to Detroit to get a taste of its one-of-a-kind dance music scene. It is that time of year again, and the team is longing for the techno-induced, party-packed weekend that makes for a magical time in Detroit. In honor of this, please come along on a Movement “meditation”, reminiscing with stories and memories from members of the <i>GSGEDM</i> team (<a href="https://www.musicorigins.org/technomecca/%C2%A0">David Grandison</a> &<a href="https://www.instagram.com/reggiedokes/"> Reggie Dokes</a>), as well as Belgium's <a href="https://www.facebook.com/djreddbelgium">DJ Red D</a>, Detroit journalist<a href="https://twitter.com/GraffonMusic"> Gary Graff</a>, and<a href="https://www.fusicology.com/%C2%A0"> Fusicology</a>’s<a href="https://asyashein.com/bio/%C2%A0%C2%A0"> Asya Shein</a>.</p><p>-</p><p>Support the independent filmmaking process and get yourself some GSGEDM merch! </p><p><a href="http://gsgedm.com/shop">http://gsgedm.com/shop</a></p><p>-</p><p>Stay updated with GSGEDM on<a href="https://www.instagram.com/godsaidgiveemdrummachines/"> Instagram</a> and<a href="https://www.facebook.com/GodSaidGiveEmDrumMachines/"> Facebook</a>!</p><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/GodSaidGiveEmDrumMachines/">https://www.instagram.com/GodSaidGiveEmDrumMachines/</a></p><p><a href="https://www.facebook.com/GodSaidGiveEmDrumMachines/">https://www.facebook.com/GodSaidGiveEmDrumMachines/</a></p><p>-</p><p>Visit Hart Plaza and watch a DEMF recap video on MusicOrigins.org</p><p><a href="https://www.musicorigins.org/item/the-detroit-electronic-music-festival/">https://www.musicorigins.org/item/the-detroit-electronic-music-festival/</a></p><p>-</p><p>Learn more about topics covered in the film and Detroit culture in the Detroit Techno 101</p><p><a href="https://www.musicorigins.org/detroit-techno-101/ ">https://www.musicorigins.org/detroit-techno-101/ </a></p><p>-</p><p>Get connected with Detroit music journalist Gary Graff:</p><p><a href="https://twitter.com/GraffonMusic">https://twitter.com/GraffonMusic</a></p><p>-</p><p>Check out DJ Red D:</p><p><a href="https://www.facebook.com/djreddbelgium">https://www.facebook.com/djreddbelgium</a></p><p><a href="http://www.instagram.com/djreddbelgiumofficial">www.instagram.com/djreddbelgiumofficial</a></p><p>-</p><p>Learn more about Asya Shein:</p><p><a href="https://asyashein.com/bio/">https://asyashein.com/bio/</a></p><p>Check out Fusicology:</p><p><a href="https://www.fusicology.com/">https://www.fusicology.com/</a></p><p>-</p><p>Learn more about Movement:</p><p><a href="https://www.movement.us/">https://www.movement.us/</a></p><p><a href="https://twitch.tv/paxahau">https://twitch.tv/paxahau</a></p><p>-</p><p>Check out The Music Origins Project: </p><p><a href="https://www.musicorigins.org/technomecca/">https://www.musicorigins.org/technomecca/</a></p><p>- </p><p>Check out Reggie Doke’s album i.heard.Love:</p><p><a href="https://reggiedokes.bandcamp.com/album/i-heard-love">https://reggiedokes.bandcamp.com/album/i-heard-love</a></p><p>-</p><p>Support Black Lives Matter Detroit:</p><p><a href="https://www.blmdetroit.com/">https://www.blmdetroit.com/</a></p><p>-</p><p>Support Detroit Will Breathe:</p><p><a href="https://detroitwillbreathe.info/">https://detroitwillbreathe.info/</a></p><p>-</p><p>Support Black Lives Matter:</p><p><a href="https://www.blmdetroit.com/">https://blacklivesmatter.com/</a></p><p>-</p><p>Be sure to check out<a href="https://output.com/"> Output</a>, to make all your music-making and sound designing dreams come true!</p><p><a href="https://output.com/">https://output.com/</a></p><hr><p style='color:grey; font-size:0.75em;'> Hosted on Acast.
