Well, we decided to end the season on an odd note. We've gone through the eras, and we've grown WAY faster than we thought we would. We share some of that with you, by shouting out all the countries you cats are living in and some of our other analytics thanks to Anchor.fm! Then, we bookend the series with a little stream of consciousness / banter on the death of the video store, streaming, and the state of cinema as we see it today. Spoiler alert: its a postmodern wasteland.

But we also talk about the academy space during this time, and the emerging American indie scene that would bleed into the 1990s, particularly Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing."

This week, Pete and Marc discuss Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather Part I and II, as well as Apocalypse Now!, to show what happens when things go right and wrong with an Auteur director. We then compare that to Ridley Scott's Alien, and Ridley Scott himself, whom still seems to have a blank check in Hollywood. Marc then goes off on Michael Cimino and how he single handedly destroyed United Artists with Heaven's Gate. Finally, the guys talk about the godsends of the upcoming Blockbuster Era, Stephen Spielberg and George Lucas, and how corporate comes in to crack down on these hippie-dippie, drug-addled artists.

We discuss The Graduate, Easy Rider, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, and the emergence of Method Acting and American Auteur directors. Finally, we talk about how people might misinterpret this movement as only about the explicit content of sex and violence, but more as a statement on how the world was, where it was going, and trying to answer questions most people didn't even care to think about.
