Episode 4: The London Pearly Kings and Queens (with Evie Waldren and Teresa Watts)

On this episode of the Hadriatic Divide, Poddy does the Lambeth Walk (figuratively), dons her button suit (figuratively) and talks to two Pearly Queens (literally) in an attempt to learn about the history of London's Pearly Kings and Queens, a concept entirely unfamiliar to Ciaran.

The couple discuss what they would put on their own button suits, debate whether or not the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony was suitably inclusive of every country within the United Kingdom, and, most importantly, why Partick Thistle's horrifying mascot holds more importance in Ciaran's heart than Paddington Bear.

Will Pod convince Ciaran to adopt The Pearlies into Scottish culture? Episode 3: Shinty (with Gary Innes and Roddy Cairns)

On this episode of the Hadriatic Divide, Ciaran and Poddy delve into the fascinating world of Shinty - Scotland's unique national sport. The pair welcome back Gary Innes to the show to discuss his illustrious time as a player for club and country. They also hear from Roddy Cairns, captain of the Dunoon-Strachur Shinty Club (as well as being a wonderful stand-up comedian and man of many talents), and traipse all the way to a dreich Cowal peninsula to take in a game of shinty for themselves.

The couple partake in a fun shinty-related game of Ciaran's design, but also go off on plenty of tangents, such as Alex Horne encounters, television show theme tunes, and trying to name all the Scottish top-flight football teams (and (spoiler) scandalously forgetting the existence of Motherwell).

Theme music (Throw Me a Penny) written by Ciaran and Gordon Whyte of Whyte Noise and recorded by Chris Waite at Gran's House Studios.

Outro music composed by Gordon and Susan Whyte.

Cover art by Poddy Wilson.

Massive thank you to Gary and Roddy for giving up their time and providing their shinty expertise.

Email your feedback to hadriaticdividepod@gmail.com and tell us what topics you'd like to be covered on the Hadriatic Divide from both countries.

This episode is NOT sponsored by Tennent's Lager... but we wish it was... 👉🏻👈🏻

Hosted on Acast. Episode 2: Cheese Rolling (with Chris Anderson)

On this episode of Hadriatic Divide, Poddy surprises Ciaran with record-holding cheese chasing champion, Chris Anderson, as she delves into the fascinating history of the Cooper's Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake. The couple sometimes stay on topic, but often stray into such nail-biting topics as Marblelympics, town criers and the origins of cake.

Will Poddy convince Ciaran to adopt this element of her culture into Scottish life? Listen to find out.

Theme music (Throw Me a Penny) written by Ciaran and Gordon Whyte of Whyte Noise. Recorded by Chris Waite at Gran's House Studios.

Outro music composed and performed by Gordon and Susan Whyte.

Cover art by Poddy Wilson.

HUGE thanks to Chris Anderson for his time, insight, and wonderful cheese chasing performances.

Email your feedback to hadriaticdivide@gmail.com and tell us what topics you'd like to be covered on Hadriatic Divide from both countries.

Hosted on Acast.
