#16 A Faith Story: Motherhood, Love, and Tested Faith

TW: Infertility, TTC, Health Concerns Maybe you are going through a season in your life where you might be challenged to navigate your heart’s desires in a different way. I pray that you will have everything you desire and that what you desire will line up with God’s very best for you. When it comes to motherhood, there are so many paths (all of them valid) to getting there. We think of motherhood and somehow our minds might automatically think woman, pregnant, baby, mom. Nevertheless, motherhood is a gift that is birthed in a process that doesn’t always look like this. With truth, vulnerability, wisdom, and grit, our guest, Dr. Erinn Scott brings us into her journey to motherhood. Erinn is a friend and colleague to Hagar’s Daughters host, Kadeisha. She is teaching (and preaching) in this episode, so don’t miss it. This episode is for everybody even if it doesn’t match your exact season and circumstance. There are many, many gems that could speak to you such as: 💎 “Trust the purpose, not the pain” 💎 “What ultimately allowed her to choose us was that we were ourselves” 💎 “Embrace the fact that your life path may look very different than you assume, and take the time that you need to process that…When I did that I got so excited [sic].” 💎 “Is it the journey or the destination that you desire?” If you want to find joy, hope, or just a thread to hang on to, in the midst of a faith that’s being tested, tune in and let Erinn get you right! #hagarsdaughters #blackmoms #blackmompodcaster #blackchristianmoms Let’s Connect: The Podcast - @hagarsdaughters (https://www.instagram.com/hagarsdaughters/) on IG Dr. Erinn Scott - @drerinnscott (https://www.instagram.com/drerinnscott/) on IG Email Kadeisha - hagarsdaughterspodcast@gmail.com Support the Show - Buy Me a Coffee (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/hagarsdaughters)

#11 Rhythms in Motherhood (Letter 1 of the Call and Response Segment)

This jumpstarts a segment called “Call and Response” where I will share letters to my mothering self or invite guests to do such. Have you ever asked yourself the question “What would I say to my younger self/my older self?” or something of that nature? In this episode, listen to me talk to my younger mothering self who was mothering a newborn. You’ll hear ideas around creating routines and rhythms, but more importantly, you’ll hear another mama on the journey just trying to figure it out as she goes. Join in the solidarity of knowing you are not alone on that path of learning and growing. Favorite Nuggets from the Show: “I’m learning to live and lean into grace in the midst of the mess because [sic] I’m a hot mess, and God leans into grace with me.” “You can choose to change at any moment in time...the minute that is coming doesn’t have to look like the same minute that just past.” “You do not have to be a perfect mother...you’re never going to be perfect.” “It gets better.” “There is no mastery in parenthood.” “When you know what season you're in you can act and operate accordingly.” If this podcast is blessing you and you want to support the show, do ya girl a favor and Buy Me a Coffee (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/hagarsdaughters). Have feedback you want to share? Want to dialogue about the episode? Hit me with an email to hagarsdaughterspodcast@gmail.com or follow the Buy Me a Coffee (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/hagarsdaughters) page and drop a comment. #9 Pandemic, Prayers, and Pregnancy Sails Part II

In part II of this episode, I am continuing my conversation with Kara Payne and we focused in on how to cultivate joy, gratitude and excitement in this season of pregnancy and birthing during COVID. Kara shares with us how having her “leading ladies,” her village of folks, has been supportive to her and helped her to stay grounded. She also shares one of her favorite devotionals she used during her pregnancy. Kara brings us into the importance of having a sister circle. Looking for that community? Get plugged in to Hagar’s Daughters. It’s much more than a podcast, stay tuned for opportunities to connect. #7 Pandemic, Prayers, and Pregnancy Sails, Part I

In this episode, I talk with Kara Payne about experiencing Pregnancy during the COVID-19 Pandemic. She gives us some encouragement but before rushing to the place of hope Kara tells it like it is about how “Corona…took the winds out of the pregnancy sails” a bit. We talk about her prayers and the reminder that her pregnancy was an answered prayer. We discuss the difficulties of reconciling birth plans as hopes and desires shifted as a result of the pandemic and developments in the pregnancy. Kara opened up to our listeners with honesty and vulnerability about where she is as she sits on the cusp of preparing to give birth. This episode was recorded in June just before the birth of Kara’s bundle of love. Tune in as Kara shares wisdom and blesses us with a piece of her story. We know that so many women are pregnant and birthing in this pandemic- listen in and know that you are not alone on that journey. Not pregnant? There are still some things to glean from this so please listen. Notable Moments (see timestamps): “Corona... took the winds out of the pregnancy sails!” - 8:39 “Lord if it be your will, allow us to bring forth a child IN 2020….not knowing what 2020 was going to look like.” - 9:54 “This was a specific prayer and an answered one - I’ve had to keep that at the forefront even when it’s been challenging to do so.” - 10:10 “Whose child are you?...Not only are you God’s child, but you are carrying God’s child.” - 18:10 Follow @hagarsdaughters on IG. #3 Moving from Surviving to Thriving

This is the episode you need to move from surviving to thriving. Here we introduce two sets of questions that will help you discover what you need to be well during this season and how to incorporate that into your life as a mom. This is all about developing our long-term self-care plan. Not a mom? Tune in anyway because these questions are great for anyone but even more specifically good for those who may not live alone or may be quarantining with another person and needing to navigate how to care for yourself when your plans are impacted by the presence of other people. Remember to subscribe to the show, rate, and leave a 5 star review. #2 Trusting God's Guidance and Voice on the Mothering Journey

In this episode we discuss how God can show us how to mother our brown babies. Kadeisha shares a bit about how the Holy Spirit is guiding her in figuring out the how to’s of mom life, especially in the midst of a lack of supports (which many of us are experiencing due to the pandemic). We talk about the remedy to the truth that babies don’t come with a manual (spoiler alert: you have the Holy Spirit, that is your manual/your guide). If you are in need of some encouragement as you struggle through the daily how to’s, this episode is for you. Tune in for some encouragement, a message of grace and love, and a little prayer. #1 Self Care for Mama for Such a Time as This

In this episode we discuss a few tips and suggestions for caring for yourself as a Mom during the COVID-19 pandemic. We discuss the necessity of being okay with just surviving right now and relaxing the standard around the pressure to thrive during the pandemic. We learn a few practical tips for self care ranging from taking a quick break for you to getting out and doing things together with your kids. No matter where you are in the pandemic, it's okay. It's okay to not be okay and it's okay to be well. We talk about affirming ourselves and reminding ourselves that "It's okay!" and how we can all use a little bit of self-compassion in this season. We read from Ecclesiastes 3 and explore for ourselves "what time is it FOR YOU?" as a way of thinking through what this season is requiring of us as moms in our individual lives and within our families. Finally, we share a prayer of lament and praise.
