Episode 50: Special Guest Harley, Chapter 1”

This is Episode 50, where listeners will rejoin our characters who are trapped in Hell. We have been given a ship capable of inter-dimensional travel that flies on soul crystals, so maybe if we can figure out how to not light it on fire, we might actually get out of Hell! This is the epic ending of our adventure to escape Hell that I am calling, “Soul Plane, Part 3: Special Guest Harley, Chapter 1.” <img src= "https://assets.libsyn.com/secure/show/359273/Careesis_Coffin1.jpg" alt="" width="1200" height="675" /> Careesi's Coffin, digital collage by Lauren Clarke This particular game session was fraught with technical difficulties. I was able to edit out the 45 minutes of Shae trying to join via Zoom. I had to use about 2 minutes of my emergency back-up recording using a voice recorder app on my phone because my Zoom recorder got turned off briefly somehow. Then I lost a bunch of my sound files when I had to do an emergency data dump at Mike’s once, and promptly forgot about them... so it wasn’t until I was trying to edit this game session where I had a moment of panic because, like, 12 games were missing. Oh, and I was about 25 minutes into editing, and my computer crashed and I had to start over. So, no mid-episode break in this episode, we are just to speed run our way through this gremlin-filled disaster! Enjoy! <h2>Table of Contents:</h2> 1. Eric the DM onboards our special guest player, Harley. 2. Sammy’s recap. 3. We leveled up to 6! Except for Mike… he accidentally deleted Darksblade instead. Oops! 4. The DM wants to know, “what are you going to do with yourself if you ever get out of Hell?” 5. Gari notices scintillating mollusks eating the souls used to power the ship. 6. There’s also a sleeping orc (Careesi) inside a coffin in the disorganized storage area. […and here’s the part where I am glad I always do an emergency backup recording on my phone because the recorder got shut off for a couple of minutes somehow!] 7. Darksblade weighs the options of lighting everything on fire vs. pushing Careesi out a window. 8. Can Ellywick eat the mollusks? 9. To defeat the mollusks, perhaps we must become the mollusks! 10. Careesi wakes up swinging. 11. Despite the fact that a bunch of his friends are standing around nearby, Darksblade casts Thunderwave. 12. Gari lumbers away. 13. Meadowdew runs down and puts herself between Careesi and the others. 14. Father Ralph (R.I.P.) had a one-night stand with everyone. 15. Napa heads down to see what the commotion is all about. 16. Eulalie feeds the snails to Helen. 17. Our crew of murder hobos decides what to do with Careesi the stowaway. 18. “You can add a mop and bucket to your list of supplies.” (Break?) 19. We agree to share the loot as long as Careesi doesn’t run away from fights like [redacted]’s girlfriend we played with that one time. 20. We manage to navigate to The Rotthenge to look for more soul crystals to fuel the ship. 21. The inhabitants of Rotthenge include mechanical gnome creatures attempting to repair a derelict ship and dead antlered humanoids. 22. Darksblade tries to read one of the monoliths, and as he does, Careesi begins to ache where the snails crawled out. 23. Gari casts Turn Undead, and attacks with his war hammer despite Lauren’s advice that maybe we should ask a few questions before attacking things. 24. As a gang of murder hobos, the first step in commerce it to utter a Vow of Enmity and shoot your crossbow. 25. Sylhanna is too close to use her bow, so she grabs her dagger. 26. The creature is scared and enraged. “I live my whole life that way!” says Napa. 27. Gari heals the creature, and the druids Napa and Eulalie can understand now that it is asking for help. 28. A beam erupts from one of the hands of the dilapidated-Showbiz-Pizza-animatronic-gnomes and hits Beric. 29. “EAT MY CRABS!” 30. “Does the baby get an attack?” 31. Ellywick unleashes a Doom Howl on the animatronic gnomes. 32. “CEASE OR YOU WILL BE CORRECTED!” 33. Darksblade attacks one of the automatons. 34. Meadowdew grants Aura of Protection on Beric, even though he is just a dumb bear. 35. Vermillion was really good with daggers. Sylhanna… not so much… 36. It may be a bit of overkill, but Napa casts Erupting Earth. 37. The automaton shoots off a rocket calling in reinforcements, and the deer-person opens itself, revealing a portal. 38. “I think we need consent for this.” 39. “That sounds like what a bad guy would say.” 40. Who would have thought that destroying all those monoliths would p*** off the grove watchers so much! 41. Careesi has gross socks. 42. “Everything is designed to hurt people.” 43. “EAT ELECTRIC JUSTICE!” 44. “I love you!” 45. Napa attempts to charm the stilt-gnome with a crown of yellow flowers and broccoli. 46. Meadowdew casts Bane on the gnomes. 47. Episode 49: Ship of Fools, Part 6: Elementals

We rejoin Bianca, the princess in hiding who is desperately trying to gather forces together to take back her kingdom. But armies cost money, so first she must gather a team together to go rob some more stuff! This is “Ship of Fools, Part 6: Elementals” Enjoy! <img src= "https://assets.libsyn.com/secure/show/359273/Peaches_the_Dire_Wolf_Found_a_Cool_Stick.jpg" alt="" width="1200" height="1814" /> <h2>Peaches found a cool new stick--Artwork by Lauren Clarke</h2> <h2>Table of Contents:</h2> 1. Solomon March (Troy’s a big soccer fan) sends Bianca and company on a mission to get some diamonds! 2. An introduction to Crunk. 3. Since our last mission, Hubert auditioned for “Centaur Takes a Wife.” 4. Mimi has been following their dreams and staying true to their roots by also kicking some butt! 5. Bianca has been putting little bows in the dire wolf Peaches’ fur and teaching him tricks. 6. Kyle has been out communing with nature, mind your own business! 7. ‘There’s more than one chipmunk out there’ is good dating advice. 8. Toriki has been making balloon swords for kids. Awww! 9. Felon sucks, now we have to fight an air elemental! 10. The air elemental attacks Thail, and he casts Hellish Rebuke as a reaction. 11. Mimi beats the machinery with her mace until stuff comes out (giggity!) 12. Kyle casts Cure Wounds on Thail. 13. Thail casts Eldritch Blast on the air elemental. TAKE THAT! 14. Hubert rages and hits the air elemental with his great ax (and Lauren has fun adding some extra sound effects). 15. The Cracken hits one of the goblins with his double-deuce. 16. Peaches the dire wolf was feeling peckish, so he eats a goblin’s face. 17. Bianca casts Moonbeam on the air elemental. 18. Toriki casts Spiritual Weapon, so now she has a balloon sword! 19. The air elemental really has is in for Thail. 20. Mimi breaks wind and runs away! 21. Kyle dumps a healing potion down Thail’s throat. 22. Bianca heals Thail a little and The Cracken considers jumping the machine in all sense of the word. 23. Toriki heals Thail and hits the air elemental with her balloon sword/spiritual weapon. 24. The Cracken jumps off the ropes with one of his signature moves, The Whaler, and attempts to grapple the wind. 25. Fetch the stick! The dire wolf chews on the machinery. 26. Hubert kills the air elemental with his great ax, so now we are free to just smash everything with wild abandon like that scene from “Office Space” where they destroy the copy machine. 27. Now it’s time for looting! 28. The next room contains a fire elemental and two goblins. (I am sensing a theme). ROLL FOR INIATIVE! 29. “JUST CALL ME JIMMY CORN, BECAUSE THE CRACKEN DON’T CARE!!!” 30. Bianca makes it rain, so now everyone is getting wet! 31. The dire wolf just wants to play. 32. Hubert throws his great ax. 33. Toriki casts Guiding Bolt and almost loses her balloon sword. 34. Kyle casts Thorn Whip, and The Cracken gets to punch the fire elemental in the back of the head as it gets dragged by. 35. Disassembly one screw at a time! 36. Thail casts Ray of Frost. 37. Fire Elemental Tucks®—now with menthol! Or cinnamon! 38. Someone call PETA, the goblin just attacked Peaches the dire wolf with a scimitar! 39. Now Peaches got a new stick! 40. Bianca summons a Fuming Fae to go all John Wick/Steven Seagall/Neil Breen on the goblin that attacked her fur baby! 41. Toriki casts Guiding Bolt on the fire elemental again. 42. “But I’m so pretty and only 14!” 43. A goblin shoots at Hubert who is being ridden by Elon. 44. Thail goes all Steven Seagall/RoboCop extremo-violence on the goblin. 45. Mimi rages against the machine, and Kyle turns the water elemental into a Slurpee. 46. The Cracken yells “JONATHAN LIVINGSTON SEAGULL!!!” and grapples the partially frozen water elemental. 47. Hubert gives the goblin a close shave. 48. Bianca and her fae spirit and dire wolf gang up on the water elemental. 49. 🎵 “I just called to say I beat you…”🎵 50. RELEASE THE CRACKEN! [into Hubert] 51. “I missed on purpose!” 52. “Why do I have these hoof prints on me?” 53. “Oh. I’m thirsty!” 54. The Cracken needs a manager. 55. Toriki heals everyone. 56. Bianca gives the water elemental a little forehead kiss before hitting it with Flame Blade. “I’m sorry I have to do this, but you’re hurting my friends!” 57. “Throw me, daddy!” 58. “ARE YOU MADE OF TEARS?!!!” 59. Thail uses Command and the water elemental drops The Cracken like its water broke. 60. Kyle casts Moonbeam. 61. Hubert throws his boomeranging-javelin. 62. “You should have brought a Kool-aid packet with you.” 63. “Get flushed!” 64. Toriki casts Aura of Vitality now that she’s stopped raging, and Thail/John has to leave for a side quest/work. ☹ 65. It’s an earth elemental! Let’s get dirty! 66. Typical goblin horse s***! They gang up on The Cracken. 67. 🎵 “Every step you take 🎵 …” there are vines coming out of your feet. 68. Kyle hits the earth elemental with his thorn whip. 69. “Am I just dust in the wind?” 70. “NO MATTER HOW DEEP THINGS GET, THE CRACKEN NEVER GOES DOWN!” 71. Like a couple of clowns, the fae spirit misses with the sword while the dire wolf rolls around in the dirt, so good thing Bianca has her Flame Blade. 72. Toriki casts Guiding Bolt because the Cracken had a good run… 73. “You’re glowing, man!” 74. “Either of you can now get dirty!” 75. “Let’s get cracken’ mother****er!” 76. “I feel bad that we are all ganging up on you…” 77. “Eat chaos, sucker!” 78. The earth elemental attacks Mimi, and Mimi and Hubert react to no avail. 79. (It’s mandatory that you reference the Devo song whenever anyone uses Thorn Whip.) 80. “Cephalopod d****!” 81. “GLOBAL WARMING!” 82. Hubert is going to turn all his diamonds into an engagement ring for a filly, Bianca will turn hers into a crown, and the Cracken will add his to his championship belt. 83. Episode 48: We Get Another Ship to Destroy

This is the epic ending of our adventure to escape Hell that I am calling, “Soul Plane, Part 2: We Get Another Ship to Destroy.” Enjoy! <h2>Table of Contents:</h2> 1. Eulalie (Shae) is off in the bushes having Father Ralph’s baby. 2. Sammy’s deeply informative recap. 3. Question from the DM, “Who was your childhood hero?” 4. Maybe since Ellywick didn’t possess a trampoline in life, she could possess a trampoline now that she’s a ghost? 5. We probably shouldn’t be napping next to a lake that a bunch of souls are wandering towards… 6. A spirit begins choking Sylhanna (she rolled a 1), then Gari casts Turn Undead. 7. The bad news is that there is a giant monster named Carcerax emerging from the lake. The good news is that we found that altar! 8. “If I had a nickel for every time I was woken up by a Doom Howl…” 9. “LET’S GO, DADDY!” 10. Carcerax looks like the Will Ferrell version of Burt Bacharach, singing Tom Jones, with more eye stalks. 11. Darksands is lifted into the air by Carcerax’s eye-tractor-beam. 12. Napa Cannonball casts Barkskin and Shillelagh on themself. 13. Sylhanna fires a couple of arrows at Carcerax from her long bow. 14. “I’m going to smite you!” 15. Gari casts Spirit Guardians, and they look like little cabbage babies mixed with Conan O’Brien pretending to be an old-timey boxer. 16. Ellywick tries to possess Carcerax. 17. Attack of opportunity! Darksands casts Witch Bolt, Napa Cannonball whacks some spirits with their Shillelagh, and Sylhanna uses her bow. 18. Darksand is purty, so he gets eaten too. (His attempts at fighting back make him go down like a spicy jalapeño popper!) 19. Is Gari a lumbering-zombie, or a “28 Days Later”-running kind of zombie? (FYI: either kind doesn’t do well in a Ray of Disintegration). 20. “I always wanted a daddy…” 21. “I’m rubber, you’re glue…” 22. Napa casts Infestation and talks about cabbage. 23. Sylhanna shoots Carcerax with her long bow. 24. Carcerax is a good daddy. 25. Airody casts Searing Smite and attacks Carcerax with a now-flaming sword. 26. Gari heals himself and casts Spiritual Weapon so he can have a flaming sword too. 27. Ellywick makes daddy scream. 28. Darksblade casts Thunder Clap, although it would be a lot funnier if he cast @** Clap. Then he does Action Splurge, or is it Action Surge, or Action Splooge? Whatever! 29. Napa casts Erupting Earth and makes a big ol’ cabbage patch on the altar. Now it looks like a home in Arkansas! (Our apologies to Arkansas…) 30. Sylhanna attacks and attacks some more. 31. Airody fails her wisdom saving throw, so she attacks with her sword some more. 32. Gari goes ham hog on Carcerax and Napa gets chomped by Baby Carcerax. (Side note: Helen is off with Eulalie, eating the afterbirth.) 33. It’s a baby! (not the baby we didn’t rescue in our first campaign [currently unreleased] from the Deep Father, a different baby). 34. Darksblade/Darksand/Darkshand—tomato, tomata—tries to pet Baby Carcerax, but rolls poorly and ends up petting his eyeball. 35. Ellywick says hi. 36. Gari says, “don’t worry, big fella!” and backs away to go heal himself. 37. Airody Misty Steps to the edge of the roiling lake. 38. To spare the bear, Sylhanna shoots arrows at the altar. 39. Napa tries tickling Baby Carcerax from the inside. 40. Maybe the power of jazz hands will convince Baby Carcerax not to eat us? 41. Ellywick pole dances to distract Baby Carcerax. 42. Sylhanna and Airody shoot more arrows at the altar. 43. Zombie Gari shoots Guiding Bolt at the altar, which has the opposite of the desired effect. 44. “Step it up, girl!” 45. Darksblade holds his move while noticing the spark of intelligence in Baby Carcerax’s eye. 46. Save a horse, ride a beholder! 47. Yaw! Yaw! Napa Thorn Whips the altar. 48. Sylhanna has Beric attack the altar. Stupid bear falls into the roiling lake and mutates until he is no longer cuddly. 49. A Spanish galleon called the Queen Lilith suddenly appears in the lake. 50. Sylhanna will be the pilot, with her Beric (formerly-known-as-a-bear) at her side. 51. Zombie Gari is the Engineer, Napa is the Navigator, and Darksblade is the Steward, and Airody is the Gunner, and Maura’s non-D & D-playing guests won’t STFU. 52. Prepare for take-off… maybe… 53. The gunners try to break up the falling pieces of sky and end up blowing up more of it. 54. And we have lift off… and then our gunner rolled a 1. 55. We brought something with us: a huge rubbery mouth with tentacles. 56. “You almost can’t miss at this range…” 57.
