On this episode of “Hanni and the ‘Hawks”, Brian is joined by one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Kansas football history, David Jaynes.
Jaynes looks back on his standout career at KU in the early 1970s, when he rewrote the Jayhawk record book and became one of the nation’s top quarterbacks. A 1973 All-American and fourth-place finisher in the Heisman Trophy voting, Jaynes finished his Kansas career with 5,132 passing yards and 35 touchdown passes.
He shares memories from his record-setting senior season and helping lead the Jayhawks to a 7-4-1 record and a trip to the Liberty Bowl.
Jaynes also reflects on what it meant to play college football so close to home after growing up in nearby Bonner Springs and the legacy of being one of the greatest quarterbacks ever to wear the Crimson and Blue.

Hanni and The ‘Hawks - Luke Grimm
On this week’s edition of “Hanni and the ‘Hawks”, Brian welcomes home Luke Grimm to look back on his fantastic career, including two bowl appearances under Lance Leipold. The former Raymore-Peculiar standout starts by talking about his controversial decision to pick KU despite growing up in Tiger country, but what a tremendous choice that proved to be. Grimm shares what it was like in the final season under Les Miles and KU’s rapid rise once Leipold took over in his 2nd year on campus. Grimm posted big numbers on the receiving end of passes from both Jalon Daniels and Jason Bean, and thus, weighs in the talents and legacies of both.
Finally, as someone who spent more than a year in the LA Chargers organization, Grimm compares and contrasts the styles of Leipold and Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh. Catch all of that and more and this week’s episode of “Hanni and the ‘Hawks.”
