Everything we have comes from God—but biblical stewardship asks whether we are willing to open our hands and place what He has entrusted to us back to His disposal. In 1 Chronicles 29:1–9, David and the people of Israel demonstrate that wholehearted devotion to God produces openhanded generosity. A willing heart gives sacrificially, gives itself first to the Lord, and discovers joy in giving freely to Him. David’s generosity reminds us that faithful stewardship sometimes means investing in ministry fruit that we may never personally see. Yet David ultimately points us to Jesus, who gave far more than treasure—He willingly gave Himself for us. Because Christ has given Himself for us, we can respond to His grace by saying, “Lord, everything I am and everything I have is available to You.”

Entrusted by God
In 1 Chronicles 29:10–19, David teaches us that biblical stewardship begins not with our money, but with our view of God. Everything we possess belongs to Him, and everything in our hands first came from His hand. Because we are stewards rather than owners, the question is not simply, “How much should I give?” but “What does God want me to do with what He has entrusted to me?” David also reminds us that God looks beyond the amount of our giving to the condition of our hearts, desiring generosity that is willing, joyful, and wholehearted. Jesus is the ultimate Giver, who gave Himself for us, so Christian stewardship is ultimately a response to the grace of the gospel. As we steward God’s gifts and further God’s mission, we are called to recognize the Owner, remember the Source, and respond with hearts fully given to Him.

Deacons: Adding another puzzle piece to God’s family
In 1 Timothy 3:8–16, Paul’s instructions about deacons reveal something important about the entire church: godly character and a heart for service are essential not just for leaders, but for everyone who belongs to God’s family. Deacons are called to be worthy of respect, grounded in the gospel, proven in service, and faithful in their homes. Yet these qualities are not reserved for a select few. As members of God’s household, every believer is called to grow in Christlike character and use their gifts to serve others. Ultimately, the church does not belong to its pastors, deacons, or members—Jesus Christ is the head of the church. When each of us finds our place and faithfully serves under Christ, God fits the pieces together to display a beautiful picture of His family and His gospel.
