Superintendent Patrick Malley sits down with Harrison and Mya, two Haslett High School seniors and co-presidents of the high school Sustainability Club. Both got their start in Bridget Booth's eighth grade Conservation Club. They now help lead sustainability work across the district, including the effort that made all five Haslett schools certified Michigan Green Schools.

First Year of Teaching with Anna Piper
Superintendent Patrick Malley sits down with Anna Piper, a special education teacher at Haslett Middle School, at the end of her first year of teaching. Anna interned at Haslett through Michigan State University, so she started the year already knowing her students. She first worked with many of them when they were sixth graders.

School Safety with Officer Kolby Casaday
Officer Kolby Casaday graduated from Haslett High School in 2012. He's a third generation Haslett grad, and his own kids will be the fourth. When he joined the Meridian Township Police Department, he set a goal for himself: someday he'd be the officer in these buildings. When the job opened, he went after it.
In this episode, I sit down with Kolby to talk about what a school resource officer actually does. We get into the day to day of the role, how he navigates the line between a school discipline matter and a criminal one, and what the DARE program looks like today compared to when most of us went through it. We talk about school safety, what the department learns from drills and from false alarms, and what he wishes families understood about how much happens behind the scenes.
We also talk about relationships, which he'll tell you are the whole foundation of the job. Kids don't ask for help from someone they don't trust.
