[…] Every single visitor needs a timed ticket, even though admission is free. Booking opens 56 days ahead at 3 p.m. Hawaii time, and it goes fast. If you miss that window, don't give up. A small batch of tickets for the next day gets released every afternoon at the same time, 3 p.m., which is exactly what I was camped out for that day at Alamoana. It's a tiny reservation fee, just a dollar, but you're fighting other travelers doing the same thing I was, so have your payment info ready and your finger on the refresh button. Once you're in, budget more time than you'd think. You'll walk through the exhibit galleries, watch a short documentary about the attack, and then take a Navy boat out to the memorial itself where you can look down and see the outline of the sunken battleship below the water.
