"Men, Commitment, and Vulnerability: A Candid Conversation" He Said What Podcast on Relationships

"Men, Commitment, and Vulnerability: A Candid Conversation" David discusses his journey to committing to marriage after 9 years with his wife. He didn't have married parents as an example growing up. Stereotypes say black men fear commitment or commit to the wrong person due to lack of community role models. Early in their relationship, David and his wife struggled and had to daily recommit through communication and understanding. Society pressures relationships into strict roles while music glorifies players over commitment. True commitment requires courage, vulnerability and trusting your partner despite risk of hurt. This is difficult for many due to past traumas and lack of examples. David gains a partner, family and accountability that make him a better man from marriage. A key stereotype is that black men don't have emotions or talk about feelings, but repressing them takes a toll. David wants to dispel this through his social work non-profit serving at-risk youth. Unpacking Emotions: Navigating Stress, Vulnerability and Self-Sabotage He Said What Podcast

Unpacking Emotions: Navigating Stress, Vulnerability and Self-Sabotage The episode discusses mental health from a black man's perspective on childhood trauma and how men deal with stress and breakups. Guest Willie G notes some men are reluctant to open up to partners due fear of vulnerability or trauma being used against them. He handles his own trauma by continuing life goals without letting it control him. Relationships sometimes end due to self-sabotage from childhood issues creating fear of closeness. Breakups affect people differently depending on reasons and relationship length. Men can become desensitized to problems but should empathize with others' experiences. Willie G works on music and business while communication helps relationships. The discussion covered trauma, challenges for men, and relationship dynamics. . .
