   Carol’s Story: From 9 Months Bedridden to 4 Years Migraine Free

   On a spring day in May 2019, out of the blue Carol got a headache above her eye that felt like a brain freeze. It was the first day of the worst nine months of her life, sending her to bed nearly 24 hours a day, unable to eat or live her life in any meaningful way. Losing over 60 pounds and trying everything from 10 different medications to injections and massages and still not getting any relief, Carol and her husband left Ohio for Florida in search of answers. When the doctors in Florida couldn’t help, Carol lost all hope. Her business partner’s brother knew of Dr. Guyuron’s work, and desperate for options she called his office without hesitation and heard back the following day. Within a week of reviewing her CT scan, Dr. Guyuron called Carol with confidence he could help. Climbing into a bed in the back of her husband’s truck, she and her husband drove 17 hours straight back to Ohio, and met with Dr. Guyuron the very next day.    Tabatha’s Story: 15 Years of Daily Migraines Come To An End

   Tabatha’s migraines started when she was 22. By the time she was 25, she woke up with a migraine every day of the week. She tried everything, from home remedies to family doctors, and five different neurologists. She avoided living her life, always fearing that something would make her migraines worse. She even refused to go outside during the summer because the humidity would trigger her headaches. For 15 years, Tabatha lugged a purse full of headache medicine, oils, and creams with her everywhere she went. She struggled to function and concentrate, often needing a ride home from work because it wasn’t safe to drive herself.     Lauren’s Story: Migraines Gone After 20 Years Of Suffering

    Lauren’s migraines started when she was just 10 years old. At 13, she was hit by a car while riding her bike, knocking out all of her front teeth and breaking her nose.     How Migraine Headache Surgery Works

    Migraine surgery is an outpatient procedure, typically done under general anesthesia. Because there are many variations of migraine headaches, an in-person or virtual visit is required to confirm the surgery will be effective. At this visit, Dr. Guyuron asks for at least a month’s worth of data detailing the duration, intensity, and frequency of headaches. For those who meet the criteria for migraine surgery, Dr. Guyuron personalizes the procedure based on the location(s) of the trigger sites, placing tiny incisions within the hairline, above the eyelids, or on the back of the head to reach and sever the offending nerves. For those from out of town, patients can travel to Cleveland one day before surgery and be ready to go back home within a few days. While it’s rare for surgery not to eliminate or at least significantly improve the frequency of migraines, Dr. Guyuron always has a secondary plan in mind to reach the best outcome. For some patients, a follow-up surgery is warranted to fully eliminate all of the trigger sites.
