Women’s health realities exposed in major Australian study
New research reveals the long-term impacts of domestic and family violence and a higher prevalence of endometriosis than first thought.
For centuries, studies of human health have focused predominantly on men. Momentum for change began in the 1970s and 80s, through the women's health movement in Australia. For the past 30 years, a landmark Australian study, the first of its kind internationally. It's priority research areas have focussed on improvements in health services for women; provision of health information for women; research and collection of data on women's health; training of health care providers; and women's participation in decision-making on health. Now, as it enters its fourt decade, new findings reveal less-known truths about the impacts of domestic violence and endometriosis on women's health.

A 'failed' system: why preventable diseases persist in remote Australia
Health Experts say dangerous, yet highly preventable diseases are persistently present in many remote communities in Australia. Rheumatic Heart Disease is one such disease that's largely eradicated in the developed world, but Australia still has some of the highest rates globally, and it's disproportionately impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors and health workers say it's continued prevalence is a sign of a failing system.
