According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), nearly 30 percent of Americans over the age of 65 experience a fall annually. And more than three million older Americans require an emergency room visit every year because of fall-related injuries. And these falls can also lead to or cause reduced mobility, lack of independence, and death. Stony Brook's Jeannette Mahoney, PhD, has taken steps to address and prevent falls, developing a smartphone solution that gauges someone’s likelihood to fall. This episode will dive into the app, which is called CatchU® …Before You Fall, as well as discuss assessing falls risk, and explore the important research being done at Stony Brook.
