Desk Life with Dr Friede Kiernan

Dr. Lindsay sits down with returning guest Dr. Friede Kiernan from the Healthy Families clinic about why desk work often causes discomfort, even when it feels “comfortable.” She emphasizes that the real issue is sustained, static positions and lack of movement, rather than perfect posture. Dr. Friede describes common complaints among desk workers (maybe you recognize your own pain pattern?) and explains how forward head and rounded-shoulder posture can strain joints and muscles, reduce motion, and contribute to dysfunctional breathing patterns. She gives some recommendations to combat these issues, and discusses how chiropractic care can help joint motion and nervous system input to support desk work.

Book an appointment with Dr. Friede at the Healthy Families clinic, and DM her on Instagram @dr.friedekiernan

Chiropractic and Your Brain

Your nervous system is the body’s control centre: your brain relies on constant sensory input from spinal joints to build an accurate “body map” that governs proprioception (where am I), motor control (how do I move), and threat assessment (am I safe). When spinal joints are restricted, the resulting distorted input floods your system with TV static - leading to compensation, poor posture, tension and a shift toward protective stress responses. Adjustments provide specific input that research suggests alters activity in the prefrontal cortex, motor cortex and cerebellum, improving sensory-motor integration, regulation and benefits that go way beyond pain relief…like better sleep, calmer reactions, clearer thinking and more energy.

Link from this episode:

Stephen W.
