Isaac has grown old, and the story now turns back to Jacob and Esau. Isaac calls Esau, the son he loves, and prepares to give him his blessing.
We’ve followed Isaac’s life, but now the focus shifts to his sons and the question of who will carry the covenant promise forward. Did Isaac know about Jacob and Esau’s exchanged birthright, or did he simply intend to bless his oldest son? We’ll see as the story unfolds.

S1 E105 | A Bitter End: Esau’s Wives (Genesis 26:31–35)
The peace Isaac has just made with Abimelech gives way to a painful family matter. Esau takes two wives from among the Hittites, and their marriages become a source of bitterness for Isaac and Rebekah.
This brief passage also shows us why faithfulness matters in marriage. God designed marriage for the lifelong, exclusive commitment of one husband and one wife. Esau’s marriages reveal the growing tension in his family and the heartache that comes when God’s design is ignored.
But this passage also points beyond the failures of Isaac’s family to our need for the gospel. None of us has perfectly honored God or remained fully faithful to him. Jesus is the faithful Savior who gave himself for his people, forgives our sin, and brings us back to God through his grace.

S1 E104 | God Is With You: Abimelech Makes Peace with Isaac (Genesis 26:26–30)
Isaac’s enemies come back to him—not to fight, but to make peace. After seeing how Isaac has prospered, Abimelech and his people recognize something they can no longer ignore: Yahweh is with him.
This passage shows a surprising change in the relationship between Isaac and Abimelech, as the tension of the previous events gives way to a peaceful covenant and a shared meal.
We’ll explore:
Why Abimelech comes to Isaac after previously sending him away
What it means for outsiders to recognize that Yahweh is with Isaac
The covenant and peaceful meal that bring this encounter to a close
