Tiffani Has a Simple Goal: Empower people to turn their greatest suffering into their greatest mission

Tiffani Fest is an award winning actress, activist and TEDx speaker. Marrying her on-stage skills as an actress, with her field experience as a global activist in India and Nepal, she advocates on behalf of women and children who have suffered sexual violence around the world. She began her global philanthropy efforts in 2015, as a solo female traveler, and never imaged her passion for championing oppressed women and children would forge a path for her public speaking and survivor advocacy work to emerge.

Fest's mission as a speaker is to inspire women (and men!) to turn the source of their greatest suffering into the source of their greatest gift to give back in the world. Named Top 20 Women Making a Global Impact in 2020 by Formidable Magazine, and Top 10 Transformational Leaders in 2021 by Exeleon Magazine.

On this week’s Hear Her Stories Podcast, (independently produced and supported by our listeners) Tiffani has expressed what we are seeing today are movements that at their core, are being built with longevity and resilience in mind, whether it’s done so purposefully, or out of necessity (however we must not sit on our laurels here). In order for a movement to live long enough to achieve its goals it needs broad based support, and it needs everyday people who are willing to give time and effort. It needs a strong narrative that can bring people into the conversation, and make the issues relevant to the everyday people that it needs to connect with.

Addressing the needs of victims of sex trafficking in Canada

Sunder Singh is an Executive Director of Toronto-based Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women. Ms. Sunder, who is at the forefront of the fight against women’s exploitation, says, “The increasing sexual exploitation of girl students in Canada is increasing at a dramatic rate, and is a matter of great concern. We have come to realize that this problem runs much deeper than people know.”

At the Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women, Ms. Singh says, she and her staff actively track cases of women exploited by human traffickers and help them restart a new life.

A suggestion she raises during her interview is a mandatory workshop for newcomers to Canada — both men and women — on their rights and responsibilities. That includes the laws surrounding physical and emotional abuse, the consequences, and resources for those who need help.

On this week’s Hear Her Stories Podcast, (independently produced and supported by our listeners) Ms. Sunder talks about challenges, barriers, promising practices, and the dire need to spread the message.
