Taking responsibility for your life doesn't mean taking the blame for everything that's happened to you.
People can hurt us. Betray us. Teach us things about ourselves that aren't true. We can experience things we never chose and absolutely did not cause.
But what happens when we keep handing someone else the power over what happens next?
And we don't only do this with the big things.
Sometimes we outsource our authority by looking for someone else to tell us what to do, assuming the expert knows what's right for us, or taking responsibility for everyone else's feelings, reactions and choices while barely considering our own.
In this episode of Heart Notes, we're talking about the difference between responsibility and blame, why handing someone else the decision can sometimes feel safer, and how to use other people's knowledge, expertise and support without handing over your own authority.
Because someone can know more than you about something without knowing more than you about you.
So what's actually yours to own? And what was never yours to in the first place?

What do you want now?
What do you want now?
Simple question. Not always such a simple answer.
Especially when you’ve spent years building a life, taking care of what needs to be taken care of, considering everyone else, and getting really damn good at knowing what everyone around you needs.
But what about you?
In this episode of Heart Notes, we’re talking about what happens when the life you built may still be good, but you’ve changed.
What you wanted 10 or 20 years ago may not be what you want now. And that doesn’t mean you made the wrong choices or need to blow up your life.
We’ll talk about why it can be so hard to separate what you actually want from what you’ve learned you should want, who you think you need to be, and everything you feel responsible for.
And I’m giving you a simple exercise to help you start figuring it out, plus one thing I want you to actually do with what you discover.
Because you don’t have to figure out the rest of your life today.
You can start by asking yourself:
What do I want now?
💕 Join me for What Do You Want Now?
I’m taking this conversation deeper in a free 3-day live experience where we’ll explore who you are now, what you actually want, and some of the beliefs, patterns and expectations that can make those questions so damn hard to answer.

What Did You Know Before You Started Questioning Yourself?
How often do you already know what you want, what isn't working, or what needs to change, and then immediately start questioning the crap out of it?
For my 51st birthday, I shared 51 things I've come to know to be true, and the very first one was: You usually know more than you think you do.
In this episode of Heart Notes, I'm talking about what happens between that first knowing and all the second-guessing that comes after it. The researching, asking everyone else, looking for another expert or another answer, and trying to find enough certainty to finally trust yourself.
Because there's a difference between gathering information that helps you make a decision and gathering information because you don't trust yourself to make one.
We talk about self-trust, the ways we learn to override our own wants and preferences, why other people's insight can be valuable without becoming our authority, and what it looks like to start taking your own voice seriously again.
The next time you find yourself looking outside yourself for an answer, pay attention to what happened first.
What did you know before you started questioning yourself?
You don't have to always be right or know the whole answer. But your own voice deserves to be part of the conversation.
