Simon's on an after-work walk in rainproof trousers (hence the rustling you hear). He's got an update on his project to breathe new life into the old 2013 MacBook Air: he took the plunge with OpenCore Legacy Patcher, a community-supported app that allows installation of newer versions of macOS on hardware that's officially unsupported. The 2013 MacBook Air was running macOS 11. He upgraded it to macOS 13 using OpenCore Legacy Patcher. The process was more complicated than a standard upgrade—he had to copy everything off, wipe the drive, and reinstall via USB. Now the real win: he got voice transcription (hear) working on the same machine. Before, it wouldn't even run on macOS 11. Now on macOS 13, it works perfectly. OpenCore Legacy Patcher also offered macOS 26, but he wasn't ambitious enough to try that (and the 2013 Air with only a few gigabytes of RAM would struggle). This success makes him think he could do the same for Emilia's 2015 MacBook Pro—upgrade it to macOS 13 and keep it useful. Big shout-out to the OpenCore Legacy Patcher community for the tool.
