[…] And what does the interaction between AI and gender look like in Africa right now? So a lot of how these harms are manifesting is that gender equality is now starting to emerge in legislative language, but a lot of them are not enforceable. And what this will mean is that governments will have policies or strategies that will try to promote the involvement of women, for example, in decision making positions regarding AI. Or there would be kind of commitments to addressing bias and discrimination. However, there aren't a lot of enforceable protection mechanisms for harms such as tech facilitated gender based violence or the circulation of intimate imagery that is generated, for instance. […]
