The Testament of Orpheus
For the first time in years the boys are back on schedule with the second official episode of Season 3, THE TESTAMENT OF ORPHEUS! They discuss the film, Hadestown, try to figure out if they're watching a documentary, an autobiographical fiction film about the making of film and theatre, or a fantasy adventure through time and space. They marvel at the special effects of a film from 66 years ago. They wonder if they'll even notice when Yul shows up because he is NOT CREDITED for his appearance in this film! And, of course, they check in with the jolly Yul kid Dave, their most faithful fan and caller, who has left a record-breaking number of messages for them to review, leading to a sort of journey to the Underworld of their own past as they try to remember what they talked about in the early days of the podcast. In Here's Looking at Yul, Kid, two friends (and sometimes Ron Howard or a stranger from the internet) who had NEVER seen a movie starring Yul Brynner watch (but ONLY watch) his entire filmography. They will not be LISTENING to Yul. They will not be READING subtitles conveying what Yul has said. They will ONLY be LOOKING at Yul (kid). And they will record an entire commentary track for each film as they do so. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

Groundhog Day Special!
The Groundhog saw his shadow! Which means, obviously, the Here's Looking at Yul, Kid boys need to talk about it! They read every tweet they can find that mention both Yul Brynner and Groundhog Day, including one that's sure to cause a scandal! They might even help solve a CRIME?! And they learn the TRUE STORY of Groundhog Day, kept secret these many years. But sometimes they record a holiday special about Groundhog Day. This is one of those times. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

Season 3 Premiere: Once More, with Feeling!
After a two-year break the boys are back in town for the storied SEASON 3 premiere of Here's Looking at Yul, Kid, the ONLY podcast on the internet dedicated to the filmography of Yul Brynner. It's a fresh jumping on point for the show, as the boys tackle Once More, with Feeling!, NOT the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but the 1960 film starring Yul Brynner and Kay Kendall. They recap the journey of the podcast through Yul's films to this point, ruminate on which television shows deserve musical episodes of their own, pitch potenital specials and streams and chat about the Disney corporation's handling of The Muppets. When season 2 launched we suggested that it wasn't a good first episode to listen to, but this is one our best, if we do say so ourselves. So jump on board what's sure to be the beginning of a regularly released monthly season!

Thanksgiving Special: Cantaloupe Harvest
There's so much to be thankful for this holiday season but the thing everyone is MOST thankful for is the exciting return of Here's Looking at Yul, Kid! The boys are back to catch up on voicemails, read Yul-related tweets and enjoy a lot of dead air. Listen to the episode that one of the hosts called "easily one of the worse three episodes we've ever done!" Think of this as a between seasons restpoint where you can sit back, relax and catch up with your favorite jolly roger Yul kids. Episode best experienced either while preparing Thanksgiving dinner or, even better, while EATING Thanksgiving dinner surrounded by your family! No need to argue about politics when you can argue about why anyone would put THIS on in the background of a family holiday gathering! And if you send us a timestamped video of you and your family listening to this podcast ON Thanksgiving Day then YOU will be invited on the podcast's next Thanksgiving special! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

Season 2 Premiere: Solomon and Sheba & Disney's "Lion King" - in 3D!
Listen to the show that people with degrees in talking about movies are calling "anthropologically interesting!" At long last the boys are back for the beginning of season two! This time they're joined by a special guest, as Letterboxd user moreviolinsontv join them after they stumbled on her throwing shade at the show in her review of The Journey, starring Yul Brynner and our old buddy Ron. This time, however, they're watching Solomon and Sheba, which moreviolinsontv has actually watched, making her the first guest EVER on the show to actually know what she's talking about! We're gonna be honest, this is probably not the best jumping on point for the show, despite it being the season 2 premiere. Never has this podcast been more about the fact that it is, indeed, a podcast. The boys spend a lot of time asking their guest "so what do you think about this podcast?" Really, this is just a great look in to how Drake and Phil make friends and what kinds of questions they ask strangers. At the end of it you'll be asking yourself "why do these guys have so many friends?" We couldn't tell you! It's Here's Looking at Yul, Kid! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

Season 1 Finale: The Sound and the Fury
The boys are back for the big season finale event! All good things must come to an end, and that includes the exciting first season of Here's Looking at Yul, Kid! They look back on the season that was and share exciting sneak peeks at the season to come. Oh yeah, and they're also watching Yul Brynner's 1959 film The Sound and the Fury! They don't know what it's about and they don't really try to find out. They call renowned Canadian millionaire Baron Storm. They celebrate the wedding of two fantastic past podcast guests. They receive a dire warning for what awaits them in the future. In Here's Looking at Yul, Kid, two friends (and sometimes Ron Howard) who had NEVER seen a movie starring Yul Brynner watch (but ONLY watch) his entire filmography. They will not be LISTENING to Yul. They will not be READING subtitles conveying what Yul has said. They will ONLY be LOOKING at Yul (kid). And they will record an entire commentary track for each film as they do so. It's Here's Looking at Yul, Kid! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

The Journey with Special Guest Ron Howard
The boys are joined by Academy Award winner Ron Howard to discuss his film debut in The Journey (the full movie from 1959), in which he starred opposite, you guessed it, Yul Brynner. Ron shares his vivid memories from the making of the film, including a life lesson Yul imparted on him at just four years old. He also sticks around to play a couple games with the guys and gives his recommendations for the best Yul movies. Afterwards, the boys receive a visit from Googly and meet Jeeves, Yul Brynner's personal butler. The Buccaneer
After a short hiatus the boys are back to watch, you guessed it, another Yul Brynner movie! This time we dive (get it, it's a pun) into The Buccaneer from 1958! In Here's Looking at Yul, Kid two friends who have NEVER seen a movie starring Yul Brynner before watch (but ONLY watch) his entire filmography. They will not be LISTENING to Yul. They will not be READING subtitles conveying what Yul has said. They will ONLY be LOOKING at Yul (kid). And they will record an entire commentary track for each film as they do so. This time the guys are taking calls and making calls, and we DOUBLE our record for most guests on a single episode! Drake and Phil share clips from their other, Patreon-exclusive podcasts, try to get acquired by a podcasting network and Phil unveils an UNPRECEDENTED SIX new theme songs. It's Here's Looking at Yul, Kid! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

The King and I (1999)
What could have been! Many months ago, Phil and Drake attempted to convene on Zoom to record the second episode of this very podcast but were THWARTED by technical difficulties. Refusing to give up, they pivoted to watching the 1999 animated film which killed the Warner Bros. Family Entertainment distribution banner. For months we held on to this recording, promising to release it on April 17th, 2023. Listeners, we prepared to do just that at the beginning of April, but wouldn't you know it, Drake plain forgot to upload it. So here it is, two days later than promised and five months after it was recorded. In this special episode of Here's Looking at Yul, Kid two friends who have NEVER seen a movie starring Yul Brynner before try to watch (but ONLY watch) his most famous film, The King and I, but instead watch (but ONLY watch) the 1999 animated The King and I, which does not star Yul, instead. They will not be LISTENING to this movie not starring Yul. They will not be READING subtitles conveying what animated characters who were not voiced by Yul said. They will ONLY be LOOKING at drawings (not Yul) (kid). And they will record an entire commentary track for the film as they do so. This time the guys discuss topics such as the filmography of Rankin and Bass, discuss previous podcast attempts, try to figure out if this film is even more problematic than the live-action movie, and the ABC Family/Freeform holiday tradition of the 25 Days of Christmas, and just how much of that is taken up by Harry Potter and Family Guy. It (isn't) Here's Lookin' at Yul, Kid! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

The Brothers Karamazov
Your favorite Yul Kids are back to bring you another exciting episode of the pod, this time covering the 1958 The Brothers Karamazov! This month, for the second month in a row, the boyz are joined by a guest! Taylor joins the podcast and brings with him the expert knowledge of owning a copy of the novel this film is based on. We all learn Russian, try to figure out if Yul Brynner's performances were inherently erotic, Phil does a trick with a Rubik's Cube that doesn't work in an audio only medium, Taylor tries to steal Googly's job, there is much debate about hair colors, and Drake reveals he doesn't know the difference between seminal American novelists and seminal American gangsters. It's Here's Looking at Yul, Kid! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

Anastasia
Do you love the 90's animated Anastasia musical starring Meg Ryan and John Cusack that was directed by the beloved Don Bluth? Well, we didn't watch that, because it was made years after Yul Brynner died! This month, the guys are joined by a very special guest! Kerry joins the podcast to weigh in on how the Romanovs' story has been portrayed in popular culture. Phil plays the more than TWO DOZEN listener calls he's received since the last episodes. Drake somehow INJURES himself while recording a podcast? A new day has dawned for the podcast! The beginning of the guest era! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

The Ten Commandments Part III
It's all been leading to this. The exciting final chapter of our Ten Commandments trilogy! In the grand conclusion of our coverage of this GIGANTIC movie, Drake and Phil are back to pay off EVERY SINGLE SETUP OF THE FIRST TWO EPISODES! We finish the Podmandments! Dave dials in and we hear the last of his Ten Commandment calls! Phil FINALLY reveals his topic from last week! We also meet a brand new character who's sure to enter the hallowed halls of podcast history and will DEFINITELY reappear in future episodes! Phil bullies AI in to writing poetry it doesn't want to write and then judges it for refusing to cancel itself. And for the first time in the history of the pod the hosts actually start really paying attention to the movie and are even kind of impressed by what they see! And they make a LOT of promises of what March will bring for the pod. It's Here's Looking at Yul, Kid! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

In this all-new, special non-canon BONUS episode listeners will get to take just a few peeks at these far flung locations of mystery and wonder. They'll meet characters that never could be, hear from a higher power, and go on a fantastic voyage to the Dumptyverse and back! P. S. Drake's girlfriend inspired the name of this episode. The Ten Commandments Part II
The epic continues! This week, Drake and Philip are BACK to deliver the second part of their EPIC, over FOUR HOUR trilogy covering Yul's longest (and presumably most expensive) movie, The Ten Commandments. They pitch what will surely be the next big Marvel-style interconnected movie franchise, discuss the dangers of AI, and check in on some more listener calls. Drake also vows that if the next episode isn't out by the end of next week God can strike him down in the streets, so this is a gosh dang PROMISE that you'll hear from us again by Saturday, February 25th, 2023! It's Here's Looking at Yul, Kid! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

The Ten Commandments Part I
Hey yo, it's finally time for the first episode of 2023 and OH BOY are we off to an AMAZING start! In this episode, Drake and Phil dive into the Yul-starring epic The Ten Commandments! What was originally envisioned as a two-parter quickly and unfortunately is transformed into a trilogy as technical difficulties prevent the guys from finishing even the first disc of the movie. But before that, they presumably get cancelled for not knowing enough about religion, decide which of the real ten commandments should be kept or tossed, and check in on listener voicemails! Tune back in BEFORE THE END OF THE MONTH for the exciting second episode of the trilogy! It's Here's Looking at Yul, Kid! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

Here's Looking at Yule, Kid - Christmas Special!
It's the holiday season, so Philip and Drake ring in the season with their first Christmas special! Not many shows roll out special bonus episodes after only two episodes of their show, but this isn't most shows! For example, most shows would never do a commentary track meant to be played alongside a yule log video! But did you know that the word YULE is pronounced identically to the first name of YUL Brynner? It is, so clearly our hands were tied! In this Christmas special Philip receives a Yul-themed holiday present, Drake risks cancellation from MULTIPLE major religions, and the hosts both share some memories of holiday seasons past! Wow, what a wonderful gift to all our listener! A double dose of your favorite Yul/Yule themed podcast this month! And this is a GREAT listen to accompany you as you travel for the holidays, a good companion in the kitchen while you're cooking up that Christmas goose, or hey, throw it on for the whole family* as you open presents! We'll be back in the new year with brand new episodes! *Not recommended for younger listeners. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.

The King and I
The boys are back to look at another Yul Brynner movie. Playing his most iconic role, it's The King and I! Things get derailed here pretty quickly as Philip and Drake almost immediately get off topic. In this episode, we start a journey through all of the plays and musicals the hosts have seen together, and discuss thirty stage shows and at least twenty-six hypothetical movie plots! We announce the topic and date of the next episode! We call out a friend or two who didn't listen to our first episode. And we realize, wow, The King and I sure is problematic! It's Here's Looking at Yul, Kid! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy (https://acast.com/privacy) for more information.
