History is not kind to the heretics. The trouble-makers, the one's who pushed back.
The goal of this podcast is to explore the lives and legends of incredible women throughout history. Sharing their stories. With wine. Cheers!
Episode 54: Elizabeth Blackwell P1 (An Impossible Possibility)
Elizabeth Blackwell was perhapse always destined to break the unwirtten laws that kept women in their place. Born into a loving and radiaclly progressive (for the era) family, she was a staunch abolisionist and supporter of the womens' rights movement. She was also comfortably middle-class, living a life of financial security that allowed her to persue her passions as she pleased. She might have lived her whole life in relative ease were it not for the words of a dying friend which set her on an unprecedented trajectory.
At the age of 24 Blackwell became determined to become a liscensed medical doctor. But, it was the year 1845, and the notion of a woman practicing medicine was a presumed impossibility of the era.

HH Presents: The Cancer Cut P1 "You Have Nothing To Worry About"
Things have been quiet on the HH channel for many months. While I'm excited to eventually return to sharing the stories of great women throughout history, I first need to share my own saga. It's a saga that took over my life about a year and a half ago, and turned everything upside down. I'm only just now starting to get my footing in the world again.
In October of 2024 I thought life was pretty good, if a little hectic. I had an amazing relationship, a stable job, grad school, and a full social calendar. But after one night out I started experiencing some digestive troubles that quickly escalated, pushing my body to it's breaking point. And this was only the beginning.

Episode 53: Pocahontas (Matoaka is Missing)
This month's episode is a release from my Patreon vault!
Pocahontas is a name many recognize, but her story has been mostly shaped by legend. Some portray her as the romantic heroine, others as a stolen victim. However, modern historians and anthropologists are beginning to paint a more complex and nuanced image than she has been previously afforded.
She lived a life that defies simple labels. In her short time, she moved between roles — royalty, captive, ambassador, and explorer; daughter, wife, and mother — navigating a world on the brink of profound change. She also went by many names... Pocahontas, Rebecca, Matoaka.
In this episode, we try to peel back the generations of myth making in hopes of catching just a glimpse of the real girl and woman.
TW: for light discussion of SA/child abuse.
