Clare used the profits to purchase food, medicine, clothing, and other supplies that were smuggled into the prisoner of war camps. But Clare soon realized that there was something there far more valuable than the patron's money. That, of course, was intelligence. Japanese officers came to the nightclub to relax, and after drinking sufficient sake, they began talking.
