Decentralized social systems with Melanie St James

This episode is a continuation of the exciting interview with the Shero and social systems architect Melanie St. James of Empowerment Works, filmed in Cannes, France with your hosts Pamela Millar and Sophie Lapaire. The discussion covers many topics relevant to international trade at this particular time. As an expert in social permaculture, Melanie describes the importance of a social structure that is inclusive and sustainable throughout different cultural situations and environmental threats. The discussion speaks a lot about peer to peer financing and the decentralized blockchain that digital money will represent in this major global change period. In this episode of Herstory Revisited, Pamela Millar and Sophie Lapaire explore the visionary work of Melanie St. James, founder of Empowerment WORKS, and how social systems architecture, decentralized finance (DeFi), blockchain, tokenization, community ownership and locally led development could transform the future of global trade. Long before decentralized finance became part of the economic conversation, Melanie St. James was asking a fundamental question: How do we move communities from dependency to empowerment? Founded in 2001, Empowerment WORKS developed a whole-system approach to sustainable development based on local knowledge, local resources, entrepreneurship and collaboration. Its 7 Stages to Sustainability (7SS) framework—Engage, Assess, Plan, Learn, Build, Expand and Sustain—offers a model for turning existing community assets into sustainable economic opportunities. Rather than asking, “What does this community lack?” this approach asks: What already exists here—and how can it become the foundation of a sustainable local economy? Melanie St James, Empowerment WORKS, 7 Stages to Sustainability, social systems architect, decentralized finance, DeFi, future of finance, future of trade, blockchain, tokenization, real world assets, social entrepreneurship, women's economic empowerment, community ownership, financial inclusion, regenerative economy, sustainable development, global trade, localization, systems thinking, peer-to-peer finance. #MelanieStJames #EmpowermentWORKS #HerstoryRevisited #DecentralizedFinance #DeFi #FutureOfTrade #FutureOfFinance #SocialEntrepreneurship #WomensEconomicEmpowerment #Blockchain #Tokenization #CommunityOwnership #SystemsThinking #RegenerativeEconomy #FinancialInclusion For generations, international development has largely operated through centralized systems: governments, international banks, corporations, foundations and development organizations directing capital toward communities. But what happens when communities can connect more directly with markets, investors and one another? Decentralized finance, blockchain technology, digital currencies, peer-to-peer networks and tokenization of real-world assets are creating new possibilities for exchanging value. Imagine farmers, artisans, women's cooperatives, regenerative agriculture projects and community enterprises connecting directly with buyers and aligned investors around the world. Instead of: Aid → Dependency Could we move toward: Local Resources → Enterprise → Trade → Ownership → Sustainability? DECENTRALIZATION NEEDS SOCIAL ARCHITECTURE Technology alone does not guarantee empowerment. Access to the technology must be provided to everyone, through a new infrastructure that is being designed and built as we speak.

   2026 Money Supply Reboot

There is about to be a seismic wave in global trade and international bank settlement. The US government is on the brink of issuing sweeping legislation that will radically affect the rules around digital money — Bitcoin, stable coins, and other digital currencies.Your hosts, Pamela Millar and Sophie Lapaire, describe these world-changing events from the point of view of their impact on the balance of power in the world. The digitization of all money is rapidly changing the face of world trade. Since the Second World War, the dollar standard has ruled the world as it has dominated global trade. Now, as governments worldwide realize that blockchain-based currency is actually a superior design for security and bank transfer, all countries will begin to issue a digital stable coin to represent their own currencies against the dollar. As the United States switches its own Treasury to a blockchain-based set of stable coins like USDC, USDT, and World Liberty Coin, the Bank for International Settlements and other money-governing bodies like the CFTC are about to issue a complete set of new rules around digital money. They believe that replacing the SWIFT standard with new blockchain-based settlement will increase the speed of secure settlement by twenty times. This GIANT fact will change the face of money going forward, making it incredibly easy and quick to exchange digital currency around the world. The CLARITY Act could make global trade in digital money easier by creating clearer U.S. rules for how different types of digital assets are regulated. By drawing clearer lines between the jurisdictions of the SEC and CFTC, the legislation could reduce uncertainty for crypto exchanges, banks, payment companies, and international businesses that want to use digital assets across borders. More predictable rules could make it easier for companies to build compliant systems for buying, selling, transferring, and holding digital assets internationally. For global commerce, the larger benefit could be greater trust and interoperability. If U.S. regulators establish a clearer framework, foreign financial institutions and businesses may find it easier to interact with U.S.-based digital-asset markets and services. This could encourage more cross-border payments, settlement, and investment using stable coins and other digital assets, potentially making transactions faster and less dependent on traditional banking intermediaries. However, the CLARITY Act would not by itself create a worldwide regulatory system; international trade would still be subject to the laws of the countries involved. The GENIUS Act could have a significant impact on global trade by establishing a federal regulatory framework for U.S. dollar payment stable coins. Because these stable coins are designed to maintain a stable value and can move on blockchain networks, they could give businesses a faster, potentially cheaper way to make and settle international payments without relying as heavily on traditional correspondent banking networks. The law's reserve and regulatory requirements are intended to increase confidence in regulated stable coins, which could encourage businesses and financial institutions to use them for cross-border commerce. The broader global effect could be to extend the reach of the U.S. dollar into digital commerce. Since the stable coin market is overwhelmingly dollar-based, wider adoption could make dollars easier to access and transfer internationally while creating additional demand for U.S. Treasury securities that back regulated stable coins. At the same time, the GENIUS Act imposes anti-money-laundering and sanctions-compliance requirements, meaning international stable coin transactions would operate within a more formal regulatory framework. Treasury has specifically described the law as supporting dollar leadership and expanding access to the dollar economy. In this episode, Pamela Millar and Sophie Lapaire explore the CLARITY Ac

   Finding My Roots

What happens when you open a box in your parents’ basement… and discover generations of your family waiting inside? In this deeply personal episode of Herstory Revisited, Sophie shares the story of her French-American roots and an extraordinary discovery that began after the passing of her parents. While going through the basement of her parents’ home, Sophie found an unexpected treasure: an astonishing collection of family records, photographs, letters, documents and traces of ancestors stretching back through generations. Some belonged to relatives whose stories she had heard growing up. Others revealed people—and entire branches of the family—she had never known existed. What began as the difficult task of sorting through a lifetime of belongings soon became something entirely different: a journey into genealogy, family history, ancestry and memory. One discovery led to another. Names became people. Old photographs acquired stories. Documents opened doors into forgotten lives. And the sheer quantity—and richness—of what had been preserved became one of the inspirations behind the creation of Herstory Revisited. In this episode, Sophie takes us down memory lane, sharing her Franco-American heritage and some of the remarkable discoveries that connected her more deeply with the generations who came before her. It is also a story about something many families eventually experience: realizing that tucked away in basements, attics, drawers and old boxes may be pieces of history that no one thought to explain. Who are the people staring back at us from those old photographs? What stories disappeared when the last person who remembered them was gone? And what might we discover about ourselves when we begin asking who came before us? Come along as Sophie begins opening the boxes—and the stories—of her past. Herstory Revisited — Unity Consciousness Through a Woman’s Eye.
