"Discipleship" - Directions for Life

Disciples. Discipleship. Discipling. "Church words" that almost anyone who has spent any kind of time in a church has heard. But has what you've heard been what Jesus was actually talking about? You see, we have created this "box" in our brains where disciples go. They are the 12 who followed Jesus while he was on earth, or they are the folks at church who have it all together and are living their lives perfectly. Whomever it is that we imagine when we think about disciples or discipleship, the point is that we never put ourselves into that picture.

But here's the deal gang, Jesus called ALL of us to go and while we are going make disciples. Life is messy. Following Christ is hard. No one has it together. But we need each other in order to grow as disciples of Jesus and to then make other disciples. Jump in as the guys from Maugansville Church chat about a sermon series that will be getting started on May 8 about the direction that the church is going with this idea of Discipleship.

Well... there's always next year!

New Year's Resolutions! What a slippery slope! For some of us, it's how we're wired. We have to have goals. We have to have something that we are always working toward. And some of us are even really good at setting reasonable, attainable goals. But let's be honest... its the end of February, beginning of March, and most of us have already fallen short of meeting our resolutions! And we are beating ourselves up every day! Because when we open up Facebook we see that someone else has stuck with that diet and has lost 25 lbs! Or that someone else has stuck to the commitment of eating dinner as a family and it has been so amazing! It never fails, when we think that we are in a moment of failure, satan finds a way to throw some salt on the wound! And it's just a downward spiral from there... year after year... resolution after resolution... we never succeed.

But here's the kicker... entirely too often we take our "spiritual" goals and compare them to our new years resolutions. We say that we will read through the bible this year, we say that we will take 30 minutes every morning when we wake up for devotions, we say that we will make it to church twice a month instead of once, and inevitably by spring we have already fallen short of those goals and we end up in this slump of "well I will never be good enough" or "well I guess I'm just not a good enough christian."

Take a listen as the guys from Maugansville Church walk us through what some reasonable expectations for ourselves and our spiritual resolutions look like.
