Podcast Overview

Dr. Curt Dodd was born and raised in the heart of Texas where he married Ginger Bisagno. He received his bachelor’s degree from Houston Christian University; his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Curt Dodd began his ministry as an intern at First Baptist Church, Houston, Texas in 1973. He was called as senior pastor to First Baptist Church in Eden, Texas, and First Baptist Church in Gonzales, Texas, before moving back to Houston in 1982 to shepherd the Metropolitan Baptist Church. Under Dr. Dodd’s pastoral leadership, “The Met” received recognition as one of the fastest growing churches in Texas and the SBC. In 1994, Curt left “The Met” to start a church in Pueblo, Colorado, one of Colorado’s most under-reached areas. On the third anniversary of the Fellowship of the Rockies, attendance soared to 2000, and the church became one of the largest in Colorado. While in Colorado, he initiated several other church plants, including Fellowship of the Rockies in Colorado Springs. In 1999, he began serving as senior pastor at First Baptist Church, Merritt Island, Florida until becoming Senior Pastor of Westside Church, Omaha, Nebraska in 2004. While Curt has a heart for the local church, he has served on various denominational boards, including the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas; International Mission Board; and Advisory Council on Church Planting with the North American Mission Board. Additionally, he has spoken to the Southern Baptist Convention Pastor’s Conference and has served as First Vice-President to the same. He has been a Pastor-Advisor for the Conference of Texas Baptist Evangelists. Dr. Dodd is also President and Co-Founder of Shepherds Group, a pastoral ministry team guiding local churches in their capital campaign ventures. Curt is also an accomplished author who has written four books: And One to Grow On; Hearts on Fire—the Keys to Dynamic Church Growth; Running on Empty in the Fast Lane; Armchair Devotional-Spiritual Insight for Professional Watchers; and Why Do I Have to Struggle? With a heart for the outdoors, he enjoys traditional archery, hunting, fishing, golf and riding his motorcycle. But his greater joy is spending time with his family. He and his wife, Ginger, have two sons, one daughter and nine grandchildren.

God's Will: Found - Part 3

A story is told of an old woman in Scotland who would travel between villages selling thread. Whenever she came to a fork in the road, she would toss a stick into the air and follow whichever path it pointed to upon landing. One day, a traveler saw her repeatedly tossing the stick, picking it up, and tossing it again. When asked what she was doing, she replied, “I am trying to figure out which road to take. This one over here looks very rough. I don’t want to go down that road. And so I am throwing that stick until it points in the direction that I want to go.”

This simple story reveals a profound truth about the human heart. We often say we want to be in the will of God, but what we really want is for God’s will to align with our own preferences. We want the easy path, the comfortable journey. But a life surrendered to Christ is not about bending His will to ours; it is about joyfully aligning our will with His. As Scripture shows us, God’s will is not a mystery to be solved but a truth to be embraced, leading us into a deeper and more fulfilling life in Him.

God's Will: Found - Part 2

An old poem captures the heart of a believer’s deepest desire: “In the center of the will of God, here I take my stand. There cannot come any secondary causes. All must come from his dear hand.” To know God’s will and to live fully within it is the safest and most fulfilling place a person can be. Yet, we often complicate the process, thinking God’s will is a mysterious code to be cracked rather than a relationship to be lived. We ask, “God, just show me your will, and I’ll do it,” when the reality is quite the opposite.

The truth found in Scripture is that God’s will is more about being than doing. Out of who we are in Christ, our actions will naturally align with His purposes. By delighting ourselves in the Lord, His desires become our desires. This guide explores the clear, biblical principles that transform us from the inside out, allowing us to test and approve what God’s will is: his good, pleasing, and perfect will.

God's Will: Found - Part 1

Christian comedian Mike Goodwin tells a story about the spiritual wisdom his grandmother shared. She told him, "Son, there's only two things you need to worry about: whether you're healthy, or whether you're sick." She continued down a funny but insightful path that eventually led to a choice between heaven and hell. In the same way, when it comes to finding God’s direction for our lives, there are really only two things to concern ourselves with: whether we are in God’s will right now, or whether we are not.

The good news is that God’s will can be found. His Word is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path (Psalm 119:105). He has a plan for you, a purpose He is working out in everything (Ephesians 1:11). Aligning with that plan is the most important thing in your life, because it is the source of true peace, protection, and purpose. But before we can begin doing the will of God, we must first focus on being. Our doing flows from our being, so we must first ask ourselves what state we need to be in to know and follow Him.
