What happens when we do what is right in our own eyes instead of following God’s Word? In Judges 14, we see Samson pursue his own desires while disregarding God’s commands and the people around him. Yet even through Samson’s sin and failure, God is still at work, beginning to deliver His people from their enemies.
This passage gives us both a sobering warning and a wonderful hope. We are called to live differently from the world, allowing God’s Word to shape our choices rather than simply following our own desires. But our hope is not found in our ability to be good enough. It is found in the grace and faithfulness of God.
Just as God’s plan was greater than Samson’s sin, His plan of salvation is greater than ours. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Join us as we consider the danger of ignoring God’s Word and the amazing grace of Jesus that never fails His people.

God Is on the Move (Judges 13)
What happens when God’s people don’t even realize how much they need a Savior? As we begin the story of Samson in Judges 13, we see a people who have wandered from God, yet God is already moving to save them. They haven’t cried out. They aren’t looking for Him. But God, in His grace, takes the initiative.
Samson’s story reminds us that our hope isn’t ultimately found in human strength, giftedness, or even our own faithfulness. God is the One who saves. And while Samson will have every advantage and yet squander much of what God gives him, his story points beyond himself to a greater Savior.
Jesus is the greater Samson, the One who finished what Samson could only begin. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. While we were dead in our trespasses, God made us alive in Christ.
The story of Samson begins with this good news: God is on the move.

Not Violent or Greedy for Gain (Judges 12)
What happens when we don’t know when to stop fighting? In Judges 12, Jephthah wins a battle against Israel’s enemies, but then turns around and fights against his own people. What began as a fight to rescue God’s people becomes something very different.
As we continue into the stories of the minor judges, we see another troubling pattern. Leaders who were supposed to care for God’s people increasingly use their position to build their own wealth, influence, and power.
While Judges gives us a picture of what not to do, Titus 1 points us toward something better: people who are humble, self-controlled, loving, and eager to serve others.
