You can now apply and pay for your Nepal visa online with your credit card. Most guides still say you cannot. They are wrong.
In this episode, we break down everything about the Nepal visa for 2026, sourced directly from the Department of Immigration, Nepal Tourism Board, and US State Department. No recycled blog content. No outdated information. Every fact verified.
What we cover:
Three ways to get your visa: on arrival, ETA online with credit card, or embassy
Exact fees: USD 30 (15 days), USD 50 (30 days), USD 125 (90 days)
The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system and how international credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, AmEx) have been accepted since September 2025
Step-by-step process at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport with real time estimates
Who gets a free visa: Indian citizens, SAARC nationals, Chinese nationals, children under 10
The 12 countries that cannot get visa on arrival
How to extend your visa (and the difference between the USD 3/day extension rate and the USD 5/day overstay penalty that most guides confuse)
The 150-day annual limit and why leaving Nepal does not reset your count
The 7 mistakes that cause real problems at immigration, from creased dollar bills to choosing the wrong visa duration
How Nepal compares to India, Bhutan, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar for visa difficulty
Why your Nepal visa and your trekking permits are completely different documents
Plus: the TIMS card has been abolished. Many guides still list it. It is not required. We explain what replaced it.

Beyond the Rain Shadow: Nepal's Secret Monsoon Trekking Season
Everyone says don't trek Nepal during monsoon. After 34 years and 10,000+ trekkers, we disagree — and we have the rainfall data to prove it.
In this episode, we break down the science behind the Himalayan rain shadow and reveal the 7 routes that stay warm, dry, and spectacular between June and September. Upper Mustang receives 250mm of rain per year. London gets 600mm. Pokhara gets 4,000mm. The difference is the Himalayas — the tallest mountain barrier on Earth — blocking every monsoon cloud before it reaches the northern side.
We cover Upper Mustang's red desert canyons and the Yartung Horse Festival (August 2026), Upper Dolpo and our 11-year medical camp partnership with Swiss nonprofit Amici del Dolpo, the hidden villages of Nar Phu and Tsum Valley, and 3 major 2026 regulation changes that make monsoon trekking more accessible than ever — including solo permits for restricted areas, new daily pricing for Upper Mustang, and the abolition of the TIMS card.
Plus: the honest truth about leeches, real cost breakdowns, month-by-month weather conditions, and what our guides actually see on the trail in July when no one else is there.
