<p>La Selección nacional fue a participar del segundo campeonato del mundo en Italia como uno de los participantes sudamericanos. Uruguay quiso boicotear el Mundial y no fue, pero Argentina perdió ante Suecia y quedó eliminada rápidamente. Con el transcurso de los años, se retomó la Copa América y se puso en marcha el Plan Mundial 1938 para organizarlo. Sin embargo la FIFA se lo otorgó a Francia, y las dos selecciones rioplatenses decidieron no ir.</p>
