Jessica Chalk Spills the Tea on Organizing Your Health Story in One Place

Pour a strong cup for this one, because it's a wake-up call for every patient! On HITea With Grace, where we spill the tea on HIT, Grace sits down with Jessica Chalk to talk about what it's really like to manage your own health story when the system doesn't. After six years and more than $100,000 in treatment, Jessica realized she was the only one keeping track of her file. She shares what gets lost when you have to retell your history to every new provider, and why getting records that legally belong to you can still mean a form, a fee, a wait and sometimes a fax machine. Jessica and Grace dig into: Who's accountable when an ER across the country has no record of your care What happens to your records every time a new job means new insurance and new doctors What's still missing even when you have three or four patient portals What Jessica learned the second time around, now that she's managing a family member's care What patients should refuse to accept, starting with their next appointment Plus, Jessica shares her advice for women in healthcare and health IT, and tells us about her tea and the story behind her mug! It was one of the first AI companions created for a single disease journey, offering emotional support for the moments after the appointment ends: in the car, at 2 a.m., or when explaining a diagnosis to your kids. Ellyn and Grace dig into: Why conversational AI, not another portal or app, was the right fit for emotional support How co-designing with patients, not just for them, shaped the product Why AskEllyn clearly says she's not a clinician, and how the team keeps it that way How AskEllyn reaches people in 50+ languages across 100+ countries, including through City Cancer Challenge Ellyn's national study with Brock University and the Canadian Cancer Society, which holds AI emotional support to a clinical evidence standard Plus, Ellyn opens up about being both the founder and the persona users are talking to, shares her advice for women in healthcare and health IT, and tells us about her tea and the story behind her mug!
