How NHL Hispanic Heritage Nights Can Make a Bigger Impact / Cómo las Noches de la Herencia Hispana de la NHL pueden lograr un mayor impacto

What does it take for a Salvadoran man to find his place in hockey, and for the NHL to connect with Latin America beyond Hispanic Heritage Nights? Fernando Abarca (https://www.instagram.com/fernandomabarca/) joins Daria Mironova on Hockey on the Beach (https://www.hockeyonthebeach.com/post/hispanic-heritage-in-the-nhl-more-than-a-jersey-more-than-one-night) to share his journey from watching The Mighty Ducks movies in El Salvador to covering his first NHL game. He discusses the challenges of earning respect in hockey journalism without the background or connections traditionally associated with the sport, and why language, cultural identity, and representation matter. The conversation examines how the NHL could strengthen its outreach through consistent Spanish-language coverage, meaningful marketing, and opportunities for Hispanic journalists. It also explores the league’s role in supporting youth hockey and creating opportunities for kids in South America to try the game. Hockey is expensive. How can equipment, ice time, and limited facilities become less of a barrier? Do financial concerns help explain the NHL’s limited presence in Latin America - and what opportunities might the league be overlooking? For Fernando, growing hockey means building lasting connections with communities that are more than just a jersey.

In this episode of Hockey on the Beach, Daria Mironova and the Utah Mammoth defenseman Mikhail Sergachev look back at his journey from a hockey-obsessed kid in Russia to the NHL. He shares stories from childhood - forgotten equipment, tough coaches, an aggressive playing style, and growing up admiring Alexander Ovechkin- and explains how he had to rebuild his unusual skating technique. Sergachev also talks about the “Match of the Year,” life between Russia and the U.S., fashion and working with a stylist, family, Utah, and why Tampa remains special to him. Childhood, hockey, Ovechkin, style and life beyond the rink — Mikhail Sergachev, in his own words.

KHL Rules, NHL stars & Hockey Behind the Scenes /

EN: TV/Radio host and reporter Daria Mironova and journalist Ivan Letyagin unpack hockey’s biggest debates with attention to detail and humor - from KHL media accreditation and the abandoned “hot potato” puck rule to pregame shootouts, NHL business, Sergei Bobrovsky’s Florida legacy, Tampa Bay’s weaknesses, and the future of women’s hockey. Behind every headline, they ask the question leagues too often forget: how will the idea affect the people who actually play, coach, cover, and produce the game? Take a listen!
