Podcast Overview

Hollerlogue—a dialogue in the holler, a conversation shaped not by academic theory; not by focus group branding, but by the land itself. The happenings of Hollerlogue came generations before the name and definition was given by a man named Roger Ford. The people of eastern Kentucky, & across this country may have just forgotten how to do it. It seems we have forgotten how to simply talk. Not have an argument or a debate, but to just have a dialogue. This problem is not just native to eastern Kentucky where I reside, but it's apparent that this issue is prevalent from sea to shining sea.

With the extreme polarized climate of America today, something's got to give. Being so divided, we don't even know what we don't agree on. And we're being invited to stereotype and grow bitter toward each other. We can all play a part in this making this change. It doesn't matter if you're die hard MAGA, or if you're sickened at the overturning of Roe vs Wade. "Plowing around the stump", is an old saying in Eastern Kentucky. It means, "the practical approach of avoiding unnecessary obstacles or conflicts to get a job done." That's exactly what I'm attempting to do with this podcast, plow around the stump.

We can begin to turn this around. I'm going to encourage everyone to step in from either side of the isle, tell our inner guard dogs to heel, and unearth the commonalities that we all share as human beings. If we can do that, I believe much can be accomplished through conversation and action. It makes no difference if you are from the hills and hollers of Pike County Kentucky, from the sand and sunshine of California, or somewhere in between. Color, creed, citizenship, religion, or lack of religion are not barriers for Hollerlogue. Trumpers, liberals, independents, undecided, unaffiliated, and in-betweeners are all welcome! PLEASE, come join me for a novel thing from our not-so-distant past...a conversation.

"What's a Come To'er???"

I spoke with Larry Sharpe on this episode. He's what I call a, "Come To'er". Someone that is not from Eastern KY, but somehow found his way to this area. People where I'm from know all too well about the leavers, the stayers, and the come backers, but what about the come to'ers? So I sat down with Larry to listen about how a fella from the Louisville area, full of jobs and urban opportunities, found himself in Pike Co. KY and why he has stayed.
