Spooky Season is now in session, summer is over, the days are getting shorter and colder. It is the perfect time of the year to sit down and watch a horror film or two. Or many if you're a big horror nut, like Anders.
On this episode, Anders reviews and discusses Ben Wheatley's 2011 film: Kill List. Kill List is a film that will surprise you in a big and spooky way. It starts off being one film and as it goes along, it goes into some dark and dangerous unpredictable territory. A scary film that relies on atmosphere and suspenseful feelings of dread more than gore and some demon appearing out of thin air. A tremendous and unique film, made by a unique and singular British filmmaker who has made both indie and big budget studio films. Kill List stars Neil Maskell, MyAnna Buring and Michael Smile. Maskell and Smiley play Jay and Gal, two former soldiers who work as hitmen. Jay in particular is rattled by a job in Kiev that went very wrong and is dealing with financial problems. Problems that affect his hostile and unstable marriage with Shel, played by MyAnna Buring. She also starred in the great horror film The Descent. And... Lesbian Vampire Killers. A mysterious client hires Jay and Gal to perform a job, where there are multiple targets. As the job goes on, it starts to bear down on the troubled and broken Jay. And his fragile psyche becomes affected.

Fascism On Film - Episode 19 - The Damned
Welcome to the nineteenth episode of our ongoing series: Fascism On Film. Each episode of this series, the Holmes Brothers look and review a film that has to do with fascism. During the episodes, the brothers look and see how the aspects and portrayal of fascism shown in the film relate to current and/or past events.
On this Fascism on Film episode, the Holmes Brothers sit down to discuss Luchino Visconti's film from 1969: The Damned. A sweeping historical drama set in pre-war Nazi Germany. Events such as the Reichstag Fire and the Night of the Long Knives are featured in the film. The film boasts a big cast of actors that includes: Dirk Bogarde, Ingrid Thulin, Helmut Griem, Umberto Orsini, Reinhard Kolldehoff and Helmut Berger. This was Helmut Berger's first big role and he was awarded a nomination for the Most Promising Newcomer - Male award at the Golden Globes. Regarded as the first film of Visconti's German Trilogy, The Damned is about a wealthy family of steel industrialists called The Essenbecks. Loosely based on the Kupp Family. The film showcases the rise of Nazism in Germany following the Reichstag fire and is told through the eyes of this family. Members of The Essenbeck family and those connected to them hunger for power and high status amongst this new regime.
A dark and strange film that is grand in scope, but messily put and held together. A well acclaimed film that did garner an X rating and controversy at the time, for its sexual content. Aspects of the Night of the Long Knives sequence were removed from the film, however it was restored to the cut of The Damned that we have today.

On this episode, Anders reviews and discusses Jeremy Saulnier's brilliant 2015 film: Green Room. Starring Imogen Poots, Sir Patrick Stewart and Anton Yelchin, in one of his last films roles before his tragic death in 2016. Green Room is Saulnier's intense and great follow-up to his magnificent revenge thriller Blue Ruin. Much like Blue Ruin, Green Room is a unique and subversive film, that represents the singular and gritty style of Jeremy Saulnier. Anton Yelchin's Pat is the bass player for a unknown punk band called the Ain't Rights. While struggling to find paid gigs on their badly planned tour, the Ain't Rights are given an offer for a gig at a Neo-Nazi skinhead club owned bar. It is located outside Portland, Oregon. After playing the gig, the band witness a brutal and vicious murder. They take shelter in the bar's green room, while the members of the Neo-Nazi skinhead group, led by Patrick Stewart's Darcy, try to break in and kill them all. It becomes a desperate and panic riddled fight for survival for the hapless members of the Ain't Rights.
