S2 | E20 How Spider-Man, Transubstantiation and a Big Imagination Led to Priesthood with Fr. Andrew Morand
What happens when a science-loving kid who once tried walking on water grows up? He becomes a priest of course!
In this episode of Holy Banter, Christina and Andrea sit down with Father Andrew Morand, who grew up at St. Alphonsus, to talk about his unexpected journey from curious kid to diocesan priest. Father Andrew shares how hearing the word “transubstantiation” during First Communion prep first captured his imagination, why he once thought priests knew secret “magic words” and how retreats, Catholic community, prayer and a growing desire to enter more deeply into the spiritual life eventually led him to discern the priesthood.
Along the way, Father Andrew talks about learning to hear God in silence, the joys and sacrifices of spiritual fatherhood, and what it means to preach to the person in the pew who may be suffering the most. And, of course, he explains how a 40-hour Minecraft experiment using canon law unexpectedly reached hundreds of thousands of people and sparked some surprisingly deep conversations about the Catholic faith.
It’s a funny, thoughtful conversation about science, faith, vocation, prayer and discovering that sometimes God’s call becomes clear long before you’re completely sure you want to answer it.

S2 | E19 When God Keeps Opening Doors You Didn’t Ask For: David Price’s Journey to Catholicism
What happens when God keeps opening doors you never planned to walk through?
In this episode of Holy Banter, Christina Steele and Andrea Simpson sit down with Zionsville native David Price, who grew up Protestant before discovering the Catholic faith while studying at Hope College. David shares how his questions about the Eucharist, Scripture, and the teachings of the Catholic Church eventually led him to enter the Church in 2024.
But his conversion story didn’t end there. David talks about the unexpected “coincidences” and people God placed in his path—including a surprising connection with Deacon Tim—that helped him recognize God’s providence at work.
Just months after becoming Catholic, David found himself discerning an entirely unexpected call to become a FOCUS missionary. Despite repeatedly turning down invitations to apply, he eventually took a leap of faith, and during his interview weekend, his heart began to open to the mission.
Now preparing to serve college students at the University of Southern Indiana, David reflects on what it means to surrender his plans, trust God with his future, and follow where He leads—even when the destination is uncertain. It’s a conversation about conversion, the Eucharist, discernment, providence, and learning to trust God one step at a time.
